Baby toys seem insane to me

I just took a stroll through the toy aisle at Target - for under 6mo. Why does everything have to be uber-interactive? Even the teething rings vibrate. The ring stacking toys had like 5 different functions beyond ring stacking. There were very few toys that were just objects that don't DO anything. It's all just too much. I foresee myself making many trips to Goodwill when people (MIL) start buying DS toys.

    I agree on the vibrating teeting rings. Seriously, is that really neccessary? I did see the plain old ring stackers there the other day. That and some blocks are on our list of things to buy soon.

    We did just buy this really cute snail with a mirror that lights up, plays music, and rolls. I admit that it is overloaded with stimuli but DS was laughing hysterically at it in the store. I had to buy it.

    IKEA has some really cute baby toys that are just objects. I know it is annoying to go to that giant store for a stuffed carrot but I'm sure you can find something else there you  needStick out tongue

    I'm dying to get to IKEA! I have drooled over their toy selection online but the nearest one is about a 6 hr drive one way. Still, DH and I are determined to go one weekend sooner or later.

    We just ordered some toys from Discovery Toys.  They are basic without all the bells and whistles.  I do admit, DS likes a lot of the toys that light up and make noise, but he is also just as happy holding onto a plain rattle.

    DD loves her vibrating teething ring - she prefers it over all of her other teething rings/toys.  She also loves lights and toys that play music but is also perfectly content to play with toys that do nothing (her nesting blocks are a fav. lately and so are her cloth books).  I just make sure she has a variety of toys within reach so she can choose what she wants to play with not what I think she wants.

    I know, some of the toys out there are ridiculous. We have a local baby store that sells a lot of wooden toys. I want to get a few for DS.

    Keep away from the snail!!!  My mom (who watches DS while I'm at work) bought it for him and is ready to throw it out the window!!!! The song & noises it makes are SO annoying!!!
