I'll try to keep this short b/c I could probably go on for awhile with various incidents! We don't do much with the inlaws b/c they always cancel on us or change the time last minute-just make things difficult. So we have started always making plans and inviting them, if they make it-great, if not it is them canceling on us not me being a horrible dil who "works to keep their grandson from them" (that zinger made me feel reallly good).
Anyway we went to dinner with them Friday (even though our reservations were for 6 and they called at 5:30 asking if we could push them back b/c they were in the middle of buying a car...) Well they say that they really want us all to get away together so they want to take us to Hocking Hills for Fathers Day weekend--ummmm that's my due date! So Josh points that out and MIL gets this disappointed look like I am ruining plans again, but says that's ok, I understand--not like you haven't known my due date for the past 9 months!
So she then says that the really big surprise they have is they want everyone to go to Aruba with them they would take care of everything but air fare--well obviously we get super excited and ask when this would be--one of the last weeks in July-so at most the baby is 4 weeks old. Once again Josh points out that as amazing as it sounds, it's not really possible in July since we won't leave a newborn with someone for 1 week, and can't really imagine an 8 hour flight with a newborn and 2 year old, could we do it later in the summer? So needless to say she gets upset, and tries to make it that I am being difficult again when they are trying to do something wonderful for us...It is really getting OLD and as pregnant as I am, I am running low on patience-sorry so long I just needed to get that out!
Re: I have to...inlaw vent (long)
From another that has in-law issues and we don't even have a child yet....I would be LIVID! I'm not sure how you managed to bite your tongue because my MIL knows I do not!
I think it might be time for DH to have a long talk with at least his Mother.
This sums up pretty much what I would say about it too. She sounds like a real winner.

Sounds like they don't have a clue or remember how hard it is to travel with young children. My suggestion would be to leave them alone for 8 hours with both kids when the new baby is a few weeks old and see if they change their tune.
It sounds like your MIL is impossible to please and you probably wouldn't have any fun on vacation with them anyway.
You're not being ridiculous; they are... I think some parents/IL's forget what it's like to have a toddler let alone a newborn on the way. I know my own father's plans a week ago didn't consider how it would impact DS (drive 2 hrs, eat in a restaurant on a friday night, drive back 2 hours... with no time to let any energy out). Anyway, make your case and try not to worry about it too much.
How dare you not go to Hocking Hills with your ILs on your due date! I'm sure you could just have the kid out there and everything will be fine. Priorities people!
Wow, Julie I really don't know what to say. Those are 2 of the most selfish/clueless people to walk the earth. How did Josh end up so normal??
Julie I'd happily go on a free vacation in your place.
No but really they sound like total nutjobs.
That's just insanity! How can they expect you to be ready to go to Aruba 4 weeks after having a baby?
I don't know how you girls with gems-of-MIL's do it...I can only be thankful that mine is not wonky. Sorry she's so awful!
