Breastfeeding

Feeding strategy with uneven supply

I know it's normal to have one breast produce more than the other.  That being said, I seem to produce more than twice as much on the right than the left.  In the last week I've started every feeding on the left trying to stimulate it more (before she was alternating breasts, only nursing on one side per feeding) and then switching her.  My main concern is getting enough hindmilk, is there a way to tell?  When I pump in 15-20 minutes I can easily get 4-5 ounces on the right, but the most LO has ever taken in a bottle is 3 and it's normally closer to 2.  I'm worried she's getting mostly foremilk.  I read that in oversupply situations it helps to feed off the same breast for two feedings in a row to make sure they get enough hindmilk, but wouldn't that continue stimulating the right to produce more?

her poop is the best way to tell. Yellow or yellow orangeish means she is getting enough hindmilk. greenish brown means she is getting more foremilk.

  • Thank you!  I hate not knowing what's going on when she eats.  Breast feeding makes me crazy :)  Her poops have all been yellow so I guess we're doing okay.
