I got talked out of wearing my first choice black cotton dress and into wearing a loud floral print dress that was deemed more festive. It might have been more festive, but the pictures killed me, it looked like I was wearing a mumu.
I say wear simple black if you want to, and if you want to make it a little more festive add some fun accessories.
Not boring, just rock it out with great heels. I say go for what you like and is comfy, and it's true solid colors are usually more flattering than big all over prints.
I did the same thing as PP, I was going to an event about 28 weeks along, tried on tons of fun floral print dresses, that I thought were cute. But in the end I wore solid color dress, I didn't feel as great with the crazy all over print dresses.
I like things to be very bright so I went back and forth on wearing a black dress... I'm glad I did for comfort - and selfishly, pictures. I did however, wear hot pink pumps and bright colored jewelry.
Re: black dress too boring for shower?

Not boring. You can always add colorful shoes or a cute necklace.
Right now you should be thinking comfort ... you'll be sitting down opening gifts for awhile

I wore this to my shower and wore cute yellow flip flops.

wear what ever a) fits you b) is comfortable c) you like how you look since there will be 100's of pics taken...
You can always jazz up a black dress with fun accesories or fresh hair style/make up that you wouldn't maybe try with a flashier(?) outfit.
