Distracted nurser?

The past couple days Kaya has been unlatching, looking at me and smiling/"talking" or trying to look around, then re-latching like 20 times on one side.  What is the deal?  I read that happens around 4 months like the wakeful period because they're more aware of their surroundings?  She's about two weeks shy of 4 months.  Anyone else have this problem?  It's really sweet that she looks up and smiles but it drives me crazy that she does it over and over.  I keep telling her, "Focus, girl!"  Haha.

Re: Distracted nurser?

  • I'm not sure-- I went through a LOT of phases where Brooke was really distracted.

Just wanted to say that your new siggy is frickin adorable. Kaya is a little asian doll!!

  • Loading the player...
  • Sounds normal.  I usually tried to nurse in a quiet room to limit the distractions.
  • Lol yeah Samara has been doing that too, lately. She'll stop, with nipple half hanging out of her mouth and when I look down to see why she's stopped, she'll grin at me.

Also, she's fascinated by her noisy big sister. This little girl is already wishing she could follow her big sister around, methinks.

  • yes I totally know what you mean. miss A is distracted x 1000.  only she started when she was about 8 weeks old!!! i read it's worst around 5-6 months but not uncommon for some babies to get that way earlier on...and unfortunately she is still that way! there isn't much you can do except limit the # of possible distractions around at the time (i.e. no TV on in the room, keep others out of the room, etc)
  • Elyse is really easily distracted too.  The other day I was chewing crackers and it made her keep looking up everytime I took a bite.  Nosy little thing.

she also likes to touch/scratch/grab every thing while she's nursing now.
  • Oh yeah, Libby's been doing this for a few weeks, especially for middle-of-the-day feeds.  I think it's pretty cute, but it doesn frustrate me since I drive home from work to nurse her and she's like 5 minutes and done because apparently she has places to go and people to see.

haha this too! i can no longer multi task and try to eat or even drink some water while nursing now! and she'll grab a hold of my finger, my shirt, my necklace, my nose, or she'll pull my nursing pad out and start waving it around in the air LOL

it's cute, but sometimes i wish she would be more focused so it wouldn't take so long!
