9 month appointment tom. What should we expect?

Hi ladies,

DS has his 9 month appointment tomorrow. What should we expect at this appointment?

  • Mine was just a check up with no shots. Generally, my pedi makes this appointment optional, but I chose to go. Really, there wasnt much, but I wanted her ears checked and just to make sure we were on the right track. Could be different for your pedi though.

  • My dr. asked me about some milestones (some ladies have had to fill out a paper on whether their children have hit certain ones...mine just asked orally).  Did height, weight, and head circumference.....did her check up, and she did get a hep b shot, but that is only because she did not get one in the hospital when she was born and she had to make it up.  If your LO did, most likely no shots.

We filled out a development (motor skills, etc) questionnaire prior to going... talked about that. He had his Hep B and a finger prick to check for anemia. And they did all the usual measurements, talked about where to go with his diet, etc. The worst part was the finger prick - the nurse told me to not let him suck on the band-aid or it would come off and he'd bleed - hard to do when you have to drive and have a finger sucker in the back seat. I gave him his paci but that didn't deter him from being curious about the band-aid. He ended up having blood all over himself... not bad though.

We had the finger prick too and this is exactly what happened with DD.  She sucked on that band-aid the whole car ride home and got blood everywhere!

DD didn't get any shots because she already had gotten all of her Hep B.  Just normal development questions, height, weight, etc.

  • he had 1 shot b/c at his 6 month, he had the regular ones plus the 2 flu shots so his pedi decided to hold off on the last hep B one. and i filled out a really long questionnaire about his milestones. the rest was just like the other appts.
  • They did the usual measurements - height, weight, head and listened to her heart (she was born was a benign murmur). We talked about milestones and nutrition, I asked my questions, and then she was given 2 shots and the finger prick for anemia. She had 2 shots at that appt because we broke up her 6 month shots.
