choroid plexus cysts?

was anyone told that they showed up on the 18-20 week ultrasound?  what came next?

Re: choroid plexus cysts?

  • Yes, with my last pregnancy my son had 2 of them.  They are markers for downs's, trisomy 18, etc.  So, I had a couple of follow up ultrasounds.  Because he did not have any other markers and the blood work that I had for genetic testing was all normal, neither my O/B nor the high risk O/B who does all my ultrasound were concerned.  The cysts typically resolve themselves in utero (and my son's were gone by week 30).

My son was born healthy with no issues.  CPC occur in about 1-2% of pregnancies.  According to my o/b, the only time they are indicative of a problem with the fetus is when there are also other problems visible on the ultrasound.

I remember being so worried.  I hope that everything works out great for you & your baby if they were present during your u/s.

  • DD had one at her 20 week u/s.  They can be markers for Trisomy 18, but if nothing else is indicating that, then your LO one is probably just fine.  My doctor told me that they typically disapper, and even if they don't, they do not effect personality or development, etc.  We had another u/s at 24 weeks and the cyst was gone.  Good luck and try not to worry!

  • We received the same diagnosis last week.  Fortunately, we had opted to have the genetic testing and, at the same time they told us the CPC was there, they were able to tell us we were 1:10,000 for T18.  The doctor wasn't concerned and I found a lot of good resources here and that all put my mind more at ease.  Of course I still worry a little, but what mother doesn't?

  • I got this diagnosis also, I was told by my doctor not to worry because my genetic testing came back very low risk.  However, I worried so I requested a Level II ultrasound to make sure all is well.  I go in tomorrow afternoon.  I'll post an update after.

  • DS #1 had a couple at his 20 week U/S. I was told since we did genetic testing and it all came back good then our chances of having a genetic disorder was extremely low. They resolved themeselves by 28 weeks.
  • I have a friend who was doing some OB/GYN training for med school. One of the doctors said they wished they never had to bring up CPCs because it almost always means absolutely nothing....but legally they have to point them out!
  • Our LO had 2 at the 16 week ultrasound.  By the 20 week, one was already gone but the other was still there.  Our blood tests all came back perfect & she's measuring right on track so the doc said not to worry.  Being as our embryos were donated, I mentioned it to the donating mom & she said for her kids (she had triplets), 2 of the 3 had them as well & went away.  I'm totally not stressing about it.
