Babies: 9 - 12 Months

Temp of your house

How cool do you usually keep it?

Maybe I'm the only crazy one here, but my Dr told me the SIDS risk is lowest when a baby sleeps in a house between 64-67 degrees so that is where our house always is.  DH is terrified of our electric bill come August, but he does agree DS sleeps better with it cold.

Re: Temp of your house

  • We keep it at 69 with the air on.

  • I have the air conditioning set at 75 but at night I usually open the windows & it goes down to about 71

Well, I'm cheaping out this summer. Our air is at 75*. Before this, it was always set at 70*. We keep the heat set at 68*, but that's because it's expensive to have it set high. We do have a finished basement that is really cool in the summer, so if it gets too hot we just go down there.

  • It's at 69 or 70.  I can't imagine keeping the house at 64.  I think we all would freeze!
  • I heard that too, but I think a lot of people over dress their LOs, I see this as a OB nurse all the time.

We keep it between 73 & 75 depending ont he humidity and how comfortable it feels. We also keep a fan on in Ls rooma nd dress him only in a onesie or short and tshirt set to sleep.

  • DD sleeps better with the cold, too, but we can't afford to keep our temp that low.  Our temp is usually about 73 at night and close to 75 during the day.
  • We keep it at 71 during the day, 67 at night. I read the same thing about SIDS, but we also bedshare, and both of my boys are snugglers, so I wind up with DH on one side and DS on the other and I roast if the air is any higher than that!

We usually try to keep it a little under 67.  It does get down to 65 a lot of times at night though.  Every time my brother visits he walks around with the hood up on his sweatshirt. hahaI guess we are used to it.

  • Around 75 during the day and 72 at night. DD sleeps in a room with a fan and seems very comfy.
  • Anything below 74 seems freezing to us. It's very warm outside here so we keep the A/C at 77 during the day and 78 at night. It's fine and otherwise the A/C would run constantly and it would get cold. But our townhome is small and cools off fast. My LO always slept in 74-77 degrees and he was fine. I hope you're bundling up your LO with a house that's 64 degrees!
Me: 44 DH: 42. DS born healthy at 40 weeks 8/24/09. TTC since then with no luck or ART. Surprise BFP 8/6/14... MMC @ 8 weeks 4 days... Miss you everyday sweet baby angel.
  • We keep it between 65 and 67 based on how we like it and what your pedi said.

He sleeps in a lightweight sleeper.  He's never woken up with cold feet or hands.  Actually, he actually feels hot when I pick him up.  He's a little furnace.

  • I guess our blood here is thinner since it's very warm, I'm sure your LO is fine :)

My great grandparents lived in Southern FL and when they'd come to visit us they'd wear winter coats if it was below 65 degrees outside! haha

I guess it's all about what you are used to.

77* WITH the a/c on?! Ack! I'd sweat sitting in your house.

  • With the ac I keep it at 77ish, with the heat 68ish.  I try to keep the windows open in the summer and use the ac as little as possible.  I'm cheap, but this is the first summer with DD, so that might all change.

  • 75-77. And we all still sleep with covers on.
  • 65, but this makes it about 75 where we sleep, this house is completely horrible when it comes to heat and air... we also have ceiling fans that are on high most of the summer... right now we all have colds so I bumped it down to 62 for some bed breathing last night.

  • Wow, I would definitely freeze in your house. We keep the babies' bedroom at about 74-75. In the winter, heat at 68 but they wear fleece pjs then.
  • Good god that's cold.

During the day and night we keep it at 75 in the summer.  And that's tough sometimes anyway because of the heat down here.
  • I read between 68 and 72 was the perfect temp for a LO's nursery to reduce SIDS, so thats where ours always is year round. Although, during the day I will let it go up to 75 in the summer.

b/w 68 and 72 is what our pedi told us for sids too, so i try to keep it in that range.

    This!
  • we keep it at 72 during the day.  at night and when we aren't home, it's turned up to 74.  we run fans at night though.
  • At night the house is usually at 74-76 but B's room seems to be an oven and sits around 84.

  • The safest temp is 68-72 degrees.  In the winter, it's set at 68, the summer 72.  For other safe sleep tips, go to: https://www.halosleep.com/keep_your_baby_safe/safe_sleep_tips/
