Help! "The daycare cough"

Hello to anyone who's up this early! I need some advice.

Our daughter - 4 1/2 months - has started to get a really phlegmy cough, like all of the older kids in the infant room seem to have at her daycare.  She has been hacking a lot, especially lately. She doesn't seem to have a fever yet, but we aren't sure what to do. The coughing seems pretty bad, but it also seems like "just a cough".

Should we take her to the doctor?

TIA!

  • LO doesnt go to a daycare center, but 2 weeks ago she got her first cold and was coughing alot and I took her to the pedi and afterwards felt kind of silly.  Pedi was like, (in a nice way) "yah, it's a cold..she's going to get colds"  But it made me feel better b/c there, she listented to her lungs and made sure everything was ok.  It just made me feel better to take her in.  Maybe just call the pedi and explain the situation first.  G/L!

  • I took DS to the doctor, he'd had the "daycare cough" for 1 1/2 weeks. His chest/nose sounded congested... but we took him in & he was perfectly clear, just a cold! Pedi said to expect colds a LOT since he'll be around other kids & they LOVE to share their germs!!

We bought a vaporizer & OMG! Cleared up the congestion/helped with the cough immediately!! Vicks baby rub is also wonderful & helps soothe their chests/backs.

  • Mine is in the same situation. I'm taking her to the dr tomorrow because she had a cold a couple of weeks ago with minor coughing, but now it's like nasty and sounds icky. I can tell she's congested and doesn't know what to do about it. I can't imagine how horrible she must feel. I just got over a cold too and I was miserable.

I read that a vaporizer would help but I'm not sure what exactly that is and how it works... maybe I'm off to research it!

    Hope she feels better soon--
