Breastfeeding

Breastfeeding and nosebleeds

Lately everytime I BF I get a nosebleed. I don't mean a few drops but a full fledged nose gushing nose bleed that usually last for 10 - 20 minutes. They only occur when I am BF and it has gotten to the point where I have to unlatch my LO and wait til the bleeding stops before feeding him again. I feel horrible doing that because he is often crying as he is still hungry. I just don't want to bleed all over him. If I lean my head backwards I feel like I am choking.

Today has been horrible and I am counting the hours til Tuesday so I can talk to my doctor. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to ease the beeding?

Re: Breastfeeding and nosebleeds

  • Nosebleeds are common during pregnancy so I wonder if this has to do with the hormones that are released when you breastfeed. There isn't an on call doctor you can call? Maybe you can even call the pediatrician?
