DH and I are still up in the air about it simply because of the cost. But there is a lot of cancer in both sides of our families. I'm just curious what you all are planning on doing. [Poll]
I would LOVE to donate mine but there is no place that does it in my area:( I spoke with my OB and he said that he can collect it but the closest donation place is in NYC which is 1 hour 45 min away:( I wish I knew of a company that I could donate to that would pick it up at our hospital!
I'm donating my cord blood. However, I have a relative who has a disease that can be treated with cord blood (little 17 month old girl- please pray if so inclined!) and I am hoping she and I match well enough for her to use my cord blood and if so, she gets it (first dibs, so to speak). If not, then its just going into the 'general donated pool'.
We would bank it privately for ourselves but its too costly for us.

this is also the problem I'm running into.
I was looking into it, but I just saw a special on ABC about cord blood and the little "lies" the ads tell, among other things.
I highly recommend you guys check out these stories, here's a link to all of them. https://www.marrow.org/NEWS/In_The_News/2010/Private_Umbilical_Co.html
