2nd Trimester

Leg cramping question..

So when I'm sleeping at night I wake up with severe cramps in my calves, every night. I get up walk around and get them to go away. I've tried the calcium and the bananas, nothing helps. So I was thinking about sleeping in compression stockings because they're supposed to increase blood flow, has anyone tried this? Or is it even not a good idea to sleep in the stockings? I'm sure I'll end up asking my Dr, but before I get to my next appointment I'd figure I'd ask and see if anyone has tried this before. TIA!!

Re: Leg cramping question..

  • I have no idea about the socks, but are you stretching when you get the cramps?  When pregnant with DD, if I stretched my legs out with my feet facing down, I would get horrible cramps/charley horses.  Like, to the point they would wake me in my sleep and I'd scream out in pain.  If I stretched my legs with my feet pointed up, no cramps.  Just thought I'd suggest that!

  • I was having the same trouble.  I read somewhere that it can also be caused by not drinking enough water.  I increased my water intake by 2-3 water bottles a day and the cramps have subsided.  Hope this helps.

as pp mentioned water sometimes helps, as dehydration makes them worse, but taking calcium is only helpful if you can break it down an absorbe it with enough magnesium. A liquid calcium magnesium suppliment works wonders!!! I have heard good things about the support stockings but never heard about sleeping in them. Ask the dr.
