2nd Trimester

baby stopped kicking???

I am 18 weeks and have been feeling the baby move and kick since 15 weeks. Baby has been super active for the last 3 or so weeks (feeling it during the day and at night several times) but the last 2 days i have felt almost nothing. am i just being neurotic? When should i start to worry and/or call the ob?

Re: baby stopped kicking???

  • Seems like my LO has its lulls too. I have been able to feel LO since 14 weeks, then last weekend nothing. Now LO is moving like theres no tomorrow :)  Don't worry (too much Wink ) I know thats not easy to ask.

  • you are not far enough along to have a kick count or worry if you do not feel the baby for a few days..
  • My dr. said that sometimes when that happens you may be slightly dehydrated. It happened to me a week or so ago, I chugged two big glasses of water and within an hour, she was moving all over. Smile

no need to worry its completely normal, also if you're busy or aren't paying attention they're still moving you just don't notice.  so no need to worry Smile I bet baby is just growing

    This. It's far too early.

  • Totally normal. At 18 weeks, your LOs movement will be erratic. You don't need to start worrying about regular movement until you are in the third trimester.

If you want, try drinking a glass of orange juice and then lay down. This might get your LO moving around a little bit. If you don't feel anything, they are probably just turned away from you at the moment.

  • They have busy and restful times too. They don't worry if you don't feel them every day until around 24-28 weeks, depending on when your OB wants you to start counts.

  • I had a similar experience right around 18 weeks, and I almost had myself in tears.  When I went to the doctor, he heard the heartbeat right away.  This is literally how our conversation went:  Me: Oh, thank goodness, I was so worried.  Dr. Why?  It is way too early to worry.  Me: Well, you know, I just hadn't felt her.. I just worry.  Dr: But why?  It's way too early.

You get the idea!  Good luck!

This. DD kicked off and on but was more consistent end of second tri?

  • From about 15 weeks to 20 weeks, the baby was pretty inconsistent about moving/kicking. I'd feel her a lot for like three days and then nothing for a few days. After 20 weeks she was more consistent. But even still, I was traveling this past week, and I think because I was many time zones over and there was a lot of activity, baby was super quiet. I felt her give little kicks on occasion so I knew she was okay, but normally she is super active and it's much more consistent, so I was a bit worried. Now that I'm home, she's kicking it up again. Point being that even when you are further along, changes in your routine could affect baby, and at 18 weeks I wouldn't worry if you don't feel her for a few days.

  • This just happened to me last week. She stopped moving for about 4 days, but then all of a sudden she started back with her flipping. She just got comfortable, I would call the doctor if you don't feel anything for about a week or two..just to be on the safe side.
  • im almost 27 weeks and i was hospitalzed on wed for this.  i waited a day and a half b4 asking my dr if it was normal he said to go labor and delivery where i stayed all day on the monitors and they told me to NEVER EVER wait that long that if you cannot feel movement for an hour and a half straight you need to go in.  granted im further along i just thought that was very useful info that my dr could have shared with me at some point since its my first baby, all is well tho thank god ! again an hour and a half sounds extreme but if you know ur baby moves a lot like mine does that seems like a lifetime !

At 27 weeks this makes sense.  18 weeks not so much.  My little girl is still erratic at 21ish weeks.  I don't worry really because even that is still early for consistent movement.

  • Thanks everyone so much for all your comments. I began to feel much better about it and after a while baby started moving again:)! Wow its not easy being prego for the first time..... you worry alot. Anyways I really appreciate it.
