2nd Trimester

Does a UTI hurt on one side through to the back?

I did a urine test Thurs morning for a UTI...constant peeing, need to pee after peeing, pain where bladder is, smell...are my symptoms.

Now it's only hurting on one side but worse and in the same area on my back?

They never called me back with the results...I will be livid if I have an infection & they didn't call yet.

  • I was in the hospital this past week with the same type of pain. It turned out that I have kidney stones. Sad

If the pain keeps getting worse I would recommend going into the ER. Good luck!

What other symptoms did you have? It's hard to tell b/c I know you get all kinds of pains during pregnancy but combined with everything else, and the increased frequency of the pain now, I'm getting concerned.

  • Yeah I agree. With symptoms into the back, it is possible it could be your kidneys...especially if changing your body position does not alter it. You should call  your doctor to get your test results. usually they tell you right away if you have one.
  • I was in the hospital for 5 nights (5-19/5-24) for what started as pre-term labor... on the 2nd night I had absolutely excruciating back pain on my right side only. Then it moved to the front right side. I ended up testing positive for strep B in my urine as well as a kidney infection. They scanned for stones but didnt see anything, an I also ended up having emergency surgery to have what turned out to be my inflamed appendix removed. We suspect (but dont know for sure) that the infections are what caused the contractions, which thank God they were able to stop.. if you think somethings wrong DONT WAIT!! I'm not saying your story will end as dramatically, but really.. trust your own instincts. Call the on-call service.

  • With my first I had a kidney infection and it was excrutiating pain on one side of my back. I was in the hospital for a couple of days. Call your doc for the results, and good luck!
  • It can but usually it does mean that it has moved on to being a kidney infection or kidney stones. I hate to say that but as someone who has had every version of a UTI, bladder infection or kidney infection ever known I know the signs and symptoms only to well!
  • That sounds like it could be a kidney infection. Start drinking cranberry juice to at least start to fend it off yourself.

  • It sounds to me like a kidney infection may be developing due to an untreated UTI. I would imagine your doctor would have called you if anything abnormal did show on your urine test but sometimes mistakes happen. Call your doctor and ask for the results ASAP or get your tail to the ER.

Hope you feel better soon x

  • Those are the same symptoms I had from a kidney infection. Ditto to the cranberry juice drinking, and call your OB ASAP. Are the open tomorrow due to the holiday? If not, try your regular physician.
