What "big" things are you buying yourself and NOT putting on Registry?

For example, stroller, car seat.. furniture, etc?

Re: What "big" things are you buying yourself and NOT putting on Registry?

  • my mom asked me what crib we were getting and what stroller we were getting. i showed her, and then she told me NOT to register for them. i'm guessing we'll be getting a nice gift from her! we'll be registering for everything else.

  • We aren't doing a registry, and we will likely only get small stuff at my future baby shower, but our parents are helping out with big stuff. My mom is buying the crib, my dad is buying a rocking chair/glider, and IL's plan to buy something but we don't know what yet.

We already bought a play yard, and we plan on buying the travel system ourselves.

  • With DD, we bought the crib and the bedding.  I'm pretty sure the rest of the bigger stuff was bought for us for shower gifts.  Oh, we did buy convertible carseats for DD when she got older.  We registered for one and got it, but it was only front-facing.  I still don't know why we did that!

    Your DD is so beautiful!!

Hope you are feeling better with the nausea!

  • We already bought the crib, dresser and the travel system. I went ahead and registered for everything else and figure that even if I don't get it I can use the completion coupon towards it.

  • We are not planning on having a shower (old Irish superstitions), although if my MIL decides that she really wants one, we wouldn't stop her.  But we currently are not planning one.  So we're thinking we will end up buying our crib, car seat, stroller, and all the other big ticket items ourselves (although we anticipate that our parents will offer to buy something- especially if we don't have a shower).  We will probably register, just because some people will ask if we have a registry for some of the other stuff (pack n play, swing, etc), but we will definitely not be advertising it... only if someone asks.

  • My inlaws are old fashioned and think the only thing we need for the baby is a laundry basket for it to sleep in...so yeah. My parents bought the crib and DH and i have found a pack n play at a yard sale and bought the dresser, travel system, toy organizer, and bookshelf ourselves.

Thanks so much!  I am doing better, still have to eat around the clock, but definitely better.  Hope you are feeling better also!

  • We have bought: crib/mattress/bedding, glider, pack n play, swing, take along swing, dresser (we repainted a dresser we bought used because I love the drawers and space and couldn't find anything else I thinked as well- plus it was cheaper!). I can't think of anymore but we don't have anything "big" left to buy (unless we don't get the two bigger things below of the registry).

What we put on the registry: space saving highchair (Target $50) & a chocolate/tan bassinet (Target $150). The other items are from $40-$3. Most of them being under $15.

My DH & I are lucky, we bought work full time. I feel really guilty asking for gifts from people that aren't that lucky. I'm also cheap, I refuse to pass up a good deal so that someone else can pay full price off the registry. :) We bought the pack n play for $25 or $30 from a lady, she had gotten it as a gift and never used it. It still has tags on it & you can tell its never been used.

  • We're buying the furniture, high chair, swing, play yard, stroller, and all other big-ticket items ourselves. We put the infant car seat on our registry, but we plan on buying the convertible car seat ourselves since the one we want is hard to find in stores.
    "To me, you are perfect."

  • My parents bought the rocking chair and dresser for the baby's room. DH's parents bought the crib and mattress. We bought the bedding and everything else for the room. We registered for everything else but really the only big things we need to have that we registered for are the pack n play and the travel system. We didn't register for a convertible seat or a high chair this soon.

  • Really just furniture and bedding. I put stroller/car seat (travel set), high chair and pack and play on my registry. One of my family members may buy us those, not sure yet. If not, we'll end up buying.

We have already purchased our stroller, furniture, and bedding. We were planning on buying our carseat but my ILs bought it for us. We will be buying all nursery decor, light weight stroller, and glider soon.

We did not register for many things over $100. I think our swing and one diaper bag (that I plan on purchasing next week) are the only items over that limit.
  • furniture, bedding etc for the nursery and the stroller.
  • So far we've bought the crib, 3 pc dresser set(2nd hand and we're refinishing it), glider, ottoman, and bedding set.  I *think* we're done.
  • We did not put the stroller, car seat (travel system is what we got), bedding and furniture on our registry. We've bought most of the big stuff ourselves and only put supplemental things on the registry.

  • Crib, stroller, car seat, changing table with drawers.

  • I don't know what we are going to buy ourselves. Right now we are putting everything on our registry but that may change since we aren't starting our registry until we find out gender at 20 weeks.
  • We bought our crib, dresser, and changing table. My mom went ahead and bought our bedding which we were also going to buy... Oh we were given a travel system, which ended up being recalled, so we were going to buy one but a bunch of family got together and surprised us with one for our shower!

Same here, although that's not cheap, its both thrifty and considerate IMO. (Cheap would be wanting someone else to spend full price even when you could get it for so much less)

My parents bought us the crib and dresser, I got the glider off craigslist (a crafty friend is recovering the cushions for me), and we bought our stroller and infant seat/stroller frame. Got the Graco Alano full size stroller for $40 (normally  $100) on clearance at Sears, and the car seat/stroller frame on a crazy cheap deal for $35 @ Target on Friday. Oh and I splurged on a Coach diaper bag (at the outlet) so i bought that myself too

A friend is loaning us her Fisher Price My Little Lamb swing, and her Ameda Double Electric  Breast  Pump.

The PnP and/or cosleeper (havent decided yet which way we'll go), convertible car seat, bedding, high chair, and whatever other big items im forgetting will go on the registry. whatever isnt purchased for us we will likely buy ourselves, either on sale or 2nd hand (ive heard Britax car seats may go on clearanc in the fall to make way for newer models)

  • I've registered for everything, even stuff we bought ourselves. I made a Sears registry because I wanted to get my crib and change table from there and by registering for them before I ordered them, I was eligible for the "Waiting Game". That's where you tell Sears your due date and if you deliver (without c/s or induction) on that date, they'll send you the value of what was bought off your registry in Sears cards. It's a long shot, but I was going to get my crib and change table from there anyway, I figured it was worth a shot.

  • With DD we purchased her crib, dresser/changing table and stroller...it was just too much money for me to register for it...I only registered for 1 item over $100 and that was the pack n play. We also registered for the car seat and swing, but they were like $79 each. Those items were bought by grandparents and then the rest of the gifts were mostly clothes and such.
  • With DS we purchased the crib & stroller (dresser we already had).

We put the infant carseat on the registry but we later bought the convertible car seats.

  • Bedding, furniture, rocking chair. We'll probably buy the stroller ourselves, but it's a Maclaren- hardly outrageously priced.
  • Crib, dresser and rocking chair. We'll probably also buy our travel system, but we registered for everything else.
  • My parents are buying the crib and the IL's are helping with the glider.  I will be putting the travel system on the registry, but only because I can get the completion discount on it - I've made sure that everyone understands that there are certain things on there that are there for that purpose only.  If i see a better deal on the travel system somewhere else, we will get it that way though.

  • We bought our furniture and bedding ourselves.
  • We bought the crib and a chair.  And the bedding & decor.  Refinishing other furniture and my dad is building a bookcase (I'm sure he'll insist on covering the materials for that).

Other than that, we didn't put the high chair, travel system, or pnp on our registry because my parents (high chair) and DH's dad and stepmom (travel system & pnp) want to cover those for us.

"Bigger" things on registry = swing, bouncer, jumperoo, monitor.

In addition to our furniture, car seat, stroller and bedding, we also purchased my breastpump! We went with the Medela Freestyle which retails for close to $400! We tried to keep registry items around $50 or less, but we did include a few $100-$150 items such as a Pack n' Play and an activity center.

  • We've  bought our own stroller, furniture, car seat, and bedding.  The only  "big things" on the registry is our pack and play and swing...everything else is small.

  • We bought our crib, crib bedding, and stroller/carseat combo ourselves. Mostly because those were the big things WE wanted to pick out for her.
  • I put everything but the furniture on my registry. I talked to my MIL today and we're aiming for a July shower, which would mean I have plenty of time to fill in gaps!

  • We did not put furniture, bedding, or the infant seat on the registry.

Our registry did include items like the PNP, high chair, stroller, convertible seat, swing, and entertainer. However, we bought everything except the convertible seat ourselves. The conv. seat was purchased by my parents and was the only "big" thing bought off the registry. Nothing else listed above was purchased for us.

We're purchasing the crib and other nursery furniture, and actually have gotten a lot of the smaller items from hand-me-downs and from DH's work. All that's really left for our registry is "big" items like the stroller, car seat, PnP, swing, and bouncer. I'm registering for a pump too, but don't expect anyone to buy it - just registering so we can use the completion coupon on it if we chose to buy one later.

We are purchasing our crib, mattress, dresser/changer, chest of drawers, and bassinet. We are planning to register for our bedding set, swing, travel system, and high chair, umbrella stroller, and other little odds and ends we will need. In my opinion, unless your family offers to purchase big ticket items, such as a crib or your furniture, you should not expect for those to be bought by shower guests.

  • We have already purchased our travel system. We don't plan on registering for furniture or the glider. My breast pump is on the registery but it'll be coming off when I buy it at the end of this week!
