what type of car do you drive?

the reason i ask if because before i had DS i got rid of my 2 door car and got a mercury milan, i thought it was roomy, spacious, etc until we put DS's car seat in the back and it is so hard to get him in/out.. we may look into leasing a more family friendly car and was just wondering what car you ladies drive and love.. ?

Re: what type of car do you drive?

  • we just bought a Ford Escape and we love it!!  Even with DS's convertable carseat in the middle, there is enough room for 2 more people to sit pretty comfortably in the back.  We are about to go to the beach and we will be loving all the "trunk" space to haul all of our luggage.

I have a dodge grand caravan, yes, a van. I know, I hate, make that hated, vans. I had a chevy cobalt before DS was born and I loved it, and I swore up and down I would never get a van. BUT, now that I have a van, I can't imagine life without it. I don't have to swing a door open to get DS out, so no matter how close someone parks next to me, I will always be able to get him out through the sliding doors on both sides. Did I mention the sliding doors are automatic? I also don't have to bend over to put DS in, or lift him super high to get him in the car. The seats are at the perfect level for taking him in and out. Also, the 3rd row seating comes out, which gives me tons of room for everything plus a stroller. It also gets better gas mileage than an SUV, which is nice on our pockets.
  • I love, love, LOVE my Honda CR-V, it is great on gas mileage and the perfect size for me.  I am petite and it is just the right height to get the car seat in and out, but keeps me a little higher off the ground and drives great in the rain and snow.  It also has a super spacious trunk that has a removable shelf that I can set a stroller on and still have a whole storage space underneath to put groceries, etc.
  • DH has a BMW X5 and I have a Honda Civic Hybrid.  Not fair that he gets the "mommy ride" as I like to call it, but I drive over 70 miles round trip to work so the hybrid seems like the most economical choice.  Both are pretty roomy for the carseat, although we only have one now.  Ask me again when we have another, I may not speak so fondly of my civic!

  • i have a civic and have no complaints. the stroller fits in the trunk and leaves room for groceries and it's no problem getting him in and out of the car seat. i'm keeping it as long as possible because it's paid off. but i'd love a honda odyssey if we have another!
  • i just bought a honda crv and i love it!!! its roomy and alot of trunk space!

  • i have a nissan murano and DH has a honda pilot, her seat fits better in my car than DH's. the way her seat goes it whoever it sitting in the passenger's seat has to have the seat back almost at a 90 degree angle.

  • mazda5. check them out! they are amazing.
  • I had the Jeep Patriot.  I loved it, and it was great on gas mileage, but the stroller left room for little else in the trunk.

I got rid of it in March and got a GMC Acadia.  It is basically the size of a minivan without it being a minivan.  We usually keep the 3rd row of seats down, and use it as a big trunk, which is awesome. There is a storage compartment back there where I keep diaper changing supplies, and I can lay Jackson in the trunk and change him.  I have sat in the 3rd row and it is actually pretty comfy for 2 adults, or 3 children :-)  Not so great on gas mileage though.

I have a Lexus RX and I love it but it's not the most spacious in the backseat or trunk.. my double umbrella stroller takes up practically the entire trunk and it's one of the smallest ones I could find!

But, my dad drives a CR-V and I LOVE his car! My parents live across country and I drive his car every time I'm out there. Carseats fit great with plenty of room to spare and plenty of leg space for the front seats w/ RF convertibles. Plus you can easily fit 2 carseats and still have someone fit in the middle seat. And, the trunk is HUGE! I've always said that was the perfect family car!  It gets great gas mileage too, for a SUV and it's not a huge car. Really great family vehicle IMO :)

  • I drive a Toyota Corolla and love it. It's economical, fuel efficient, and just a great little car. I actually think it's easier to get DS in and out of my little Corolla than big SUVs.

DH drives a Hyundai Santa Fe, which I like pretty well. It's spacious but not enormous and has an incredible warranty. I normally hate driving big cars/SUVs, but I don't mind driving this. The gas mileage is decent, but nothing compared to my Corolla. ;)

  • I drive a BMW X5 with a third row seat. It fits both of my Britax seats in it without a problem. I love my car.
