Toddlers: 24 Months+

should I bother getting a double stroller?

for those with 2 or more-DS will be 2years 9 months when baby arrives.  He does Ok in the stroller now...I'm just thinking by then he wont want to be in the stoller.  However, I don't know how I will manage two without putting them both in-especially at longer outings...trips to the mall etc.

I was looking at the Chico Cortina Double stoller...I have the infanst seat already...it looked nice and had great reviews....any thoughts?  TIA

Re: should I bother getting a double stroller?

  • I've read on here that it's huge and people didn't like it.  FWIW.

Have you looked in the Sit & Stand?

DS will be even older than yours by the time #2 comes around, I'm thinking we'll get an Ergo and hope that buys us enough time so he'll be completely out of the stroller.  If we do get a double, I like the Combi double.

  • We've decided to hold off on the double. DD is still very good about riding in the stroller, but I'm planning on just wearing #2 if we go to the mall, etc.  We probably won't be going anywhere too crazy this summer where we'd need the double stroller so I figure why spend that much money. Instead, we'll wait until #2 is older and probably just get a double umbrella stroller for things like fairs/zoos, etc.

My son was 15 mo when DD was born. We did get the sit and stand (convertible...it has 2 regular seat and then switches to the sit and stand when we take out the back seat). As of right now, I hardly ever use my double. DS just wants to walk everywhere. Which is fine for the things we do. But it is nice to know we have the double for things too.

  • Just got the chicco double delivered, but haven't even taken it out of the box yet. I have seenNothing but good reviews on it. I would have preferred a jogger type but they were either notCompatible with chicco car seat or in order to use it with the car seat you had to spendA million more dollars on additional parts. I just couldn't justify spending a ton, I think 300$ For the one I got is enough! I did have a coupon and saved 50$ on BRU online. I thought I'd betterOrder it bc it seems to be out of stock everywhere.

  • Wait.

Wait until the baby is born to find out what your toddler's personality is at that time.

We used a double stroller maybe 5 times and mine are 17 months apart.

In the beginning I wore the baby and kept the toddler in the single.

Then we used the sit and stand but only briefly.

My oldest isn't a huge stroller kid and now neither is my 2nd.

Wait until closer to time to see what's going to suit your needs.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
  • DS wants to do whatever the baby does so riding in a stroller is one of them.  Plus, I would rather push an empty stroller then carry out a tired toddler from the zoo.  DS now wants stroller rides every day which is good for my waist line so I am not complaining.  Before the baby he hated the stroller.

I test drove the chicco and it is not as bad as the gaco double.  After playing with all the nice double jogger ones I couldn't get myself to compromise on a cheaper double.  It was also a bit heavy for me, but I have back issues.  I got a Baby Jogger City Select. Love it and worth every penny, IMO. DS1 can get in and out on his own and he can be in front to see what is going on.  DS2 is in back by me which is great for the emergency pacifier insertion.   It has an adapter for the chicco infant seat.  The city mini and elite does also.  I figure I can still get decent money for it when I am done on craigs list since good doubles are hard to find on there.

I was going to hold off on the double until I found out I was having twins.  Unless you live in a big city and walk a lot, I wouldn't bother.

  • ditto howley.

I carried ds in an hotsling or bjorn for a good 9 months before getting a double.  I got a double then b/c I walked everyday... long hike.

    wait.

  • With my kids in your position, I personally wouldn't.  My 2.5 yr old has to be REALLY pooped to agree to ride in the stroller.  Right now with the 3 kids I only have a double and I always wear someone,,  I have a host of carriers, but an Ergo is my go to on long walks b/c if she refuses to ride in the stroller, I can put the twins in the stroller and wear her.  If my twins had  been one baby, I'd never have gotten the double.  If anything I might have planned to wear the baby for 6-9 months and then bought two umbrella strollers that you can connect with those connectors so it was compact and adjsutable to suit our needs.

  • great strollers for toddler + infant = Phil & Teds and City Select with the 2nd seats added on ... awesome b/c when the older child is not into strollers anymore- you can use as a single - or take seat on and off depending on the needs for that day.

i had a P&T and loved it (but sold b/c not good for twins) and now have a City Select and love it - so many options.

i would want a double for sure - i have a stroller that fits all 3 of mine b/c there are still times i want Griffin in a stroller for sure - you can't run off and chase your toddler in the mall if he takes off - b/c you can't just leave baby behind.

  • We go out all the time with the two LOs.  So far, I've just worn one of them or DD (2.5) walks and it has worked fine (even with regular trips to Busch Gardens).

However, you can use stroller connectors ($10 at BRU) to connect two umbrella strollers.  I'm a total cheapo and used this with two umbrella strollers we got free from BRU.  We used it with my daughter and niece (also 2.5) at Busch Gardens and the mall this past week and it worked great.  The only problem was that the "double" stroller ends up being slightly wider than most side-by-side doubles, so it can be hard to get it through some doors. Otherwise it was really easy to push and navigate and I could still hook my diaper bag onto the stroller without problems.

  • In the 2wks we've had DS, I've already wished we'd had a double stroller 3 or 4 times.

I presently have: BJ City Elite single, Graco Metrolite single (and matching bucket seat), a Snugli, and an Ergo and have been able to make something work using these things.

I used the Graco/bucket seat for a walk once (with my toddler walking) and about half way back, she wanted to be carried (!!). Ugh. I was only a week post partum and I was barely strong enough to do it but I was wiped out once I got home lol. Don't know if I'll do that again....

The other day I used the Elite + Ergo and that worked better because DS loves being worn but it was a very warm day so DS and I were sweaty by the end. Plus he immediately zonks out and I kinda wanted him to be able to look around at the trees and kites etc and in that Ergo insert he's all kinds of snuggled against me so he has no hope of staying awake lol.

I may use Graco/bucket (for baby) + Ergo (for DD if she asks to be carried) next and see how that goes. Not psyched about trying to put her on my back w/o help but it may be a great way to go. Normally DD likes to walk so the Ergo would be like my fallback idea.

I'll see how far we can get but mostly I just want to order the City Mini double already and be done with it.
