How to increase solids from purees?

-->

Right now my LOs have 2-3 meals of purees but at each sitting, they only take maybe 1/4 jar or container, sometimes more, sometimes less (and that is sharing). I tried to give puffs (just tiny peices) and they gagged and spit it out. Not fans!

Today I started mixing in oatmeal or rice cereal again with the purees and it seemed to go over well, they ate more. Used to be they wouldn't touch anything with a thicker consistancy.

How do you increase from purees? Especially for the gaggers? What do you give after purees? Strain my own veggies but make it slightly chunkier?

Thank you!!

P.S. They are 7 months old adjusted today.

    Softer foods they can mash easily. Such as canned veggies and bananas. My DD is a big fan of strawberries right now. They just have to get used to the consistency. Once they do, they wont gag anymore. Keep doing the oatmeal/rice cereal with the baby food too.

  • DD is a gagger too. If you get the 3rd step jars, they are thicker but not chunkier - think pudding consistency. Also, after starting her on yogurt and pureed meats, shes gotten a bit more stable. More protein.
  • Thanks! I will try the meats (::shudder::) and yogurt and the 3rd foods.

    As far as trying like the canned veggies, do I mash them up or let them try to do it?

  • I know! I hate the purred meats, but I don't want to wait any longer to expose her to those foods so i have to get over it.
  • I'm making LO food and I struggled w/ this.  To make them thicker I just added less water.

    Now that I want her to practice chewing I boiled a bunck of whole grain elbow noodles and threw them in w/ the veges and puree slightly.  Now there are little chunks she has to chew.

    She also eats crackers, that's the only finger food she will take.  Any and all types of crackers!
