Hey Ladies!
I guess I am now an exclusive pumper. I really wanted to breastfeed from the breast, but LO just isnt having it, so we will stick to the pumping.
Our Story: At LO's 2 day appointment he has lost enough weight that the Dr.s were concerned. He had a bad latch and fought the breast, not to mention my milk hadn't come in. They wanted to supplement him with formula (mixed with whatever I could pump) until my milk came in. My milk came in within a day and we got rid of the formula, but we were still using the bottled BM and trying to get him to latch properly. He literally would fight the breast and scream and cry each time we put him to it. We have continued to try, but he fights it more and more. I guess I am going to be pumping for the next year!
I'm curious about the other pumpers out there! Why do you pump instead of feed from the breast?
Re: Pumpers...
You know most of this but I will write it out in case anyone else reads it.
Cam was born at 35 weeks and was in the NICU for 16 days. I could not feed her at first from the breast and she got used to the bottle. However, I persisted and she now talks milk from the breast and some formula, mostly formula. I don't make enough to feed her and make her full. I have been pumping to try and get my supply up...
It is definitely a PITA! - I am a SAHM, and I feed him, do tummy time, lay him down when I can, then pump, and the clean all the pump stuff. I get a little bit of rest, and then it starts all over again. Sometimes I get so frustrated. I wish he would just take the breast!
I have found that pumping has become less of a PITA and more of just another part of the day as LO gets older. It gets better once your supply builds up. Pumping takes less time and soon you can start dropping sessions.
LO was beyond sleepy when he was born. He had no desire to latch right after birth. Once he did latch, he would fall asleep mid-feed. Nothing worked to wake him up. Against the nurses recommendations, I made the choice to pump and bottle feed him my colostrum in the hospital (5 day stay). He then couldn't latch due to nipple confusion, so we tried out a nipple shield. He still falls asleep at the breast. We then gave up. Pumping works for us and I prefer to just EP then continue to try BF.
same situation as you, he is just NOT having the breast. I have been pumping since the hospital and it is a PITA. I HATE it, but refuse to give formula so I am just sticking it out.
This...
but it is so worth it.....my lil' girl couldnt ever latch due to inverted nipples and big breast.... so here we are Epumpers!!

Seriously!? OMG that would save me sooooooo much time!!
I've seen an LC and breastfeeding is still terribly painful for me. After several attempts I decided to just pump. I can't deal with bleeding nipples every day. Pumping is a pain, especially the middle of the night pumping sessions, but I believe that he will benefit from breastmilk.
I had only planned to breastfeed until I went back to work in Sept, so it's just a few more weeks.
