Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Recommend your sippy cups

For the past month, I have worked to wean LO from nursing and bottles.  He seems ok with whole milk, but will not drink much at all from the sippy cups we have (just cutsy cups that were given to us).  Can you please recommend your sippy cup you used after bottles and/or nursing?

  • Nuby has been best for the transition so far for DD.

  • Take and toss. Dd couldn't figure out the cups with a valve in them.

  • We used the Playtex First Sipster when the boys were just starting out trying a sippy cup around 6 months. These are the ones they use now though and both love:

    Playtex Sipster

    or

    Gerber Fun Grips

We've had great success with both of these cups ... love them! The soft spout ones never worked for us. My boys chew/bite right through the silicone-type spouts.

  • she did the best with the nubby ones right after weaning; now she likes the take and toss and the avent ones.
  • we tried about 5 different cups before settling in with take 'n toss cups.  ds just couldn't figure out the ones that had a rubber stopper.  now he does great with the cup!

  • DS ended up taking Nalgene (hard spout).  I use them for his sister.  He would not take anything for the longest time, and I tried a lot of them.  He took the nubby, maybe 2 oz out of it in a day.  He hated them because you have to squeeze the valve somehow to get the air out and he could not figure it out.   I hated them because when you drop them or DS throws them, I had 3 of them crack and leak all over the floor, once in the car, ick.  I used them for  two weeks and DS never really took them (was during the beginning of weaning)

I have used the nalegenes for DD for 3 years now.  No leaks, easy to wash.  I just have a trap for the valves.  The bottles and tops do fine in the washer.  I only have about 8 of them for both kids, 6 of which I have had for 2-3 of years and they held up well.

  • These are my favorite!  We have quite a few of them now.  Easy to use, don't spill, and insulated.
