3rd Trimester

measuring small

One of my gf's is measuring 3 weeks small.  Has this ever happened to anyone?  I'm just curious what it could mean.

Re: measuring small

  • I am measuring a couple weeks behind as well, but my baby is measuring right on track. Belly measurements don't always mean much. What is important is how the baby is measuring.

  • I am measuring 28 to 30 weeks at 37 weeks.  I did this with my first and both measure perfectly in sonograms.   Some women just carry differently and I am definitely one of those.  They will probably due a sonogram just in case, but it might just be her.
  • Sorry, forgot your question!  It could mean alot of things.  Due dates might be off, IUGR might be a factor, baby might be small for gestational age, etc....but all women are different and hopefully it is just momma's belly and the baby is perfect!

    Ditto.

My OB is doing an estimated weight/growth ultrasound at my 39wk appointment but he's not concerned. I'm a smaller framed person so having a large baby would result in a C-section. The size he is now (or should be at birth) will be perfect.

  • I was very small with DS. Everyone was sure he was going to be a tiny baby, but he ended up being 9lbs. 3oz.

I'm small again this time, and my doctor says she will probably be a small baby, but I'm pretty sure she won't be. Smile

  • I agree with what others have said. My pic below was taken yesterday at 29 weeks. My bump is smaller but yesterday had an ultrasound to measure the baby and she is measuring over 2 weeks ahead.
  • I measure small on the outside.  My baby measures small on the inside (she's in the 25th percentile) but she's healthy and happy.  I have weekly ultrasounds to make sure she's still growing.  It was sary at first, but she seems fine and the doctors aren't worried so long as she doesn't stop growing.
  • Thanks ladies.  She had her u/s today and everything is good.  I guess it's just the way she is carrying.
