Or am I just really misinformed? I thought I read something about them not having cows milk until a year and so I figured that meant any kind of dairy. I feel really dumb for not knowing this.
I've heard no cow's milk until one year only b/c people get the misconception that it's OK to cut back on BM or formula then, not that it's bad for them. I'm no expert though...
We've been giving DS plain yogurt since 8 months and just introduced him to cheese. We aren't doing milk until he's one. Here's a link, to a page I like, with some info about introducing different types of dairy.
They can't have cows milk until a year, but can have yogurt, cheese, etc before a year. I can't remember the actual reason, but maybe something about the way they're digested? DD1 had everything dairy (except milk) before turning 1.
Ditto PPs. Unless you have specific allergy concerns dairy is just fine. They caution against cow's milk as it in nutritionally inferior to breast milk or formula, and it tends to replace BM/formula when introduced.

That is what I thought too. We weren't giving him anything dairy (cheese, yogurt, ect), but I guess those are ok. Just not milk? I'm pretty clueless on this too.

DD eats stonyfield yobaby for breakfast a few days a week. She loves it.... we will start cheeses at 8-9 months
Yogurt and cheese are okay. It had something to do with the lactose breaking down during the culturing
