Baby Showers

Is 5 weeks before shower too early for invites?

My friends who are hosting my shower asked if I thought 5 weeks before was a good time to send invites. It's a summer shower (July) so they were thinking the more time the better since people are always going on vacation this time of year. I told them sure cause I really have no clue what the proper time frame is....I haven't thrown a shower in years. Just curious what the bump ladies thought.

  • Mine is July 10th and we are mailing them next week. I think the more time, the better.

I'd say it is a bit early, for if people have vacations/plans they are probably already set.  Your host will probably have quite a few people not rsvp if the rsvp date is closer to the shower (although, I find that a lot of people don't rsvp anyways).  It is better to send them early rather than late though.

  • I helped my hostess stuff the envelopes and we sent them out five weeks before. Since June and July are huge wedding months we know there's a lot going on and thought that earlier is way better than too late!

  • I totally think 5 weeks is perfect.  Its weddign season & baby season so a lot of people will appreciate the notice!

Also coming from someone whos invitations went out a week and a half before the shower......the earlier the better....I promise! lol!  :)

A picture is worth a thousand words. I'd bet money your words are ignorant.
  • My shower invites went out over 6 weeks early - because my hostess wanted to give extra time with people being busy on the Memorial Day weekend, and also enough time to get replies.  My shower is June 26th.  Frankly, I think the earlier the better, so people can figure out if they can attend or not.

No matter what, people SUCK at RSVPing these days.

  • Five weeks sounds good to me.  I think that's when mine went out.  It gives a few days in the mail, 2-3 weeks for people to respond and a couple weeks leeway to make the rsvp date so you can plan accordingly for the number of guests.

  • Truthfully, if I got an invite that early to a shower I'd probably end up forgetting about it.  Sad, but true.  It's not like it is a wedding invite.  I think if you are concerned about people not being "around" because it is summer...they probably have had their summer plans for a while now so you having a shower is not going to change that.  I would not send the invites out that early but you could send a "heads up"...via email (a save the date).

  • If you are sending any out of state or more than 3-4 hours from your shower location, I definitely don't think it's too early. Mine is June 26th and we mailed some last week and some today. We're trying to avoid sending my younger brother's graduation announcements along with the shower invites. I'd rather people send him stuff for his graduation first and if they want to come for the shower, that'd be great too.
  • As some PP said, the more time the better. My shower is July 18th and they will be going out in about a week or so. My hosts wanted to give people plently of notice so people could plan.

This exactly - my shower is June 26th and we sent the invites over 6 weeks early. We wanted to give people enough notice and we have a few flying in from out of state. I think 5 weeks is perfect...
