LO gets up in the middle of the night to "hang out"- help!

LO gets put to bed at about 9-930 pm. at that time she eats and isnt hungry again until 530-6 am. it's fantastic, no nightly feedings.

heres the kicker- EVERY night she wakes up at about 3-4 am (last night it was 230) and is wide awake, all happy/smiley like she just wants to hang out. i dont know what to do or how to break her of this. shes not getting up for any reason, shes not hungry or dirty. usually what i do is try to give her the pacifier but she will spit it out and cry so i end up taking her into the daybed thats in her room to lay with me (so not good to get her into the habit, i know). at that point she will relax and fall back asleep (in the mean time so do i, but i want to be in my bed).

any tips?

  • Our baby wants to be wide awake after the night feeding but he sleeps with us so he will just go back to sleep with us there cuddling him.

  • we had this problem recently. He was awake from like 2-3 every night. We just made sure to interact with him as much as possible during the day, keep lots of light and normal noise around him. We do a bedtime routine now same thing every evening: around 7-8 we do bath, playime, bottle, books and he goes down. When he doesake at nigjht for feedings we keep it dark and quiet and he usually goes back to sleep.

I felt bad when he was awake then but you don't need to entertain them. If your LO is comfy hanging out in the crib, let them. I did pull mine out when he was awake if he was fussy, and would put him in his bouncer and play some soothing music, or rock him to quiet music until he got sleepy again. Your LO will get the days and nights straight, no worries :)

  • No speaking, shushing, or eye contact.  Just go in there and put in the pacifier, and do a quick, quiet change (whether LO needs it or not).  Then, lay LO back down.
