S/O L&D surprises.. The infamous "ring of fire"

I seriously had NO IDEA how absolutely real it is! That was the only time during labor and delivery I actually screamed. The L&D surprises post has got me remembering everything.. I swore I would never forget the pain!

  • It's the burning sensation when the baby crowns. I had an epidural and I still felt it.

  • Me too!! They closed the door and asked me to quiet down, told me I was scaring other women. I was like RU F'IN KIDDING ME!!
  • yeah i remember the ring of fire, makes me think of the song Lol. the thing i found odd was that, although i knew it was gonna hurt, for some reason i didnt expect DD's head to feel so hard. I felt like i was pushing out a hard plastic easter egg lol!
  • Apparently, i was screaming the F word.

Oh, wow...glad I never felt that...but heck, I never felt anything but relief when DD came out.

  • Yup, definitely real! I wanted to stop pushing because of the pain, but my mom and midwife had to remind me that that was not an option.
  • I didn't have any pain medication and I honestly don't remember "the ring of fire". Crowning wasn't any worse for me than any other part of L&D.

  • oh yeah and when they say "you'll know when to push when you feel a lot of pressure like you have to poop" they really should have said "You will feel like your intestines are going to come out of your a$$"

  • I didn't actually feel it and went med-free.

I wanted to stop after his head was out because the overall pain and pressure of him being down there was excruciating.

  • LMAO I am remembering everything now.. when they told me to stop pushing when the baby was crowning to prevent tearing I told them to go fcuk themselves, and they all laughed at me! but it did prevent me from tearing.

  • Yeah, if I had been told that during childbirth class it would have been quite helpful during delivery.

I also wish our instructor for the class would have informed the daddies to be that they would assist us in delivery. DH did great, but he had no idea he would be enlisted on the front lines!

  • I felt it...I thought it hurt until I tore, then I really got an idea about just how painful giving birth could be.  Tearing is a pain I'll never forget.

Yes   This...or the fact that you will feel like you have to shlt out a soccer ball.

  • I screamed Holy Sh!t! RING OF FIRE! RING OF FIRE! during my L&D

Dh now cackles hystericlly whenever we watch finding nemo and tells penny that she has in fact swam through the ring of fire. lol

  • I didn't feel the ring of fire, I tore pretty bad too ( 4th degree) and I didn't feel that either. I went med free too. I have to say that it was almost pleasurable...  The day after I gave birth was the hardest for me when I really started to feel the rip.
  • I honestly didn't feel it. I think my back labor was painful enough that I didn't notice. DD was crowned for about 20 minutes before the nurse actually paid attention to me and believed that the baby was really coming right now... my dr. didn't make it back for the delivery because the nurse waited too long to call her. My body basically pushed DD out while I tried to prevent it from happening. Then two pushes and DD was airborne (there was a resident who caught her). I was med-free and I think the nurse just thought I was complaining.
  • Oh yes, that was the most painful part for me.  I tore as well but didnt feel that.
