How long after the "sell by" date do you use meat? I thought I'd plan ahead and bought a bunch of stuff a couple days ago and of course things have come up. I'm trying to figure out how quickly I need to get all my cookin' done. (If it makes any difference, at this point it's pork chops and ground beef .)
Oh yeah, I know I can freeze it, but once I put meat in the freezer, it seldom comes back out. It's just some kind of strange black hole!

when in doubt I do the "sniff" test. If it smells odd I toss it.
I will use it about five days after I purchase it. Otherwise I freeze it.

If it's whole 2-3 days, if ground within a day.
I do the sniff test also... but Normally I use it within 3 days of purchasing.. Otherwise, I freeze it..
And I learned that b/c I cooked ground beef 5 days after and it smelled horrible while I was cooking it.. Now I'm freaked to go past 3 days.. But that could've been that batch...
