My nephew is 5 mths old and my brother has the Chicco KeyFit Car Infant Seat for his car. When my child is born, my nephew will already be in another car seat so I am getting this one. The seat fits in the Chicco Cortina Storller, however I am not too sure if I am better off registering for a whole new travel system or should I just get another infant carrier for the BF's car and the restraint base and have one carrier?? I am I'm a little confused and really am not too sure what I want to register for now. I do know that I want Chicco because I've read great things and it's had great reviews.
Re: Chicco Cortina Stroller - Cubes
I'll be honest...your question is a little unclear.
I think what you are saying is you are getting a Chicco KeyFit carseat as a hand me down? It will come with the bucket seat and one base, right? You want to know if you should register for just the Chicco Cortina Stroller (which your car seat will fit in) or the entire Chicco Cortina Travel System (which would come with the stroller, another bucket seat, and base)? You are trying to figure out if you need another bucket seat for use in another vehicle? Right?
If that is right then this is my advice:
Register only for the Chicco Cortina Stroller and an additional base for the car seat you will be getting. There is no reason to need a second bucket seat, your child can only use one bucket seat at a time, (in fact, you don't NEED the second base, the Chicco KeyFit seats can be installed without a base if needed).
I am a little confused too, but did you know that the Cubes pattern is not actually sold as a travel system? So if you want it to match the stroller, all you have to do is buy the matching stroller at Babies R Us.
The two pieces (Keyfit and Cortina) do work together as a system, but they are one of the few Chicco sets that are sold separately. Also, the additional bases are sold separately as well.
I have this system and so far, I really like the ease of use, the size and quality and the way if it feels super secure when I stick the seat in the stroller or the base.

I just reread your OP, it looks like you are trying to determine if you should buy another travel system or just another base for your boyfriend's car...
It seems pretty obvious to me that you just need another base ($79.99) and the stroller ($169.99)...why spend almost $300 on an additional travel system, especially if you want the stroller and the seat from your brother to work together and match.

I have the same situation - I inherited a Chicco KeyFit infant set and base from my sister (she's sister using her stroller). I registered for an additional base (only because it's easier) and a Baby Jogger City mini stroller. I didn't like the Chicco stroller (too heavy and bulky). So I went in search of another stroller that was compatible.
I also inherited a Snap & Go. So we'll be using that for the first couple of months and then he'll be moving on to the City Mini.
I'm sorry it comes off as confusing. I am haha.
I will prob just register for the Chicco Cortina stroller and an additional base. We found out what we are having today (a girl) so we will be going next weekend to register...thank you all for your help
