Babies: 0 - 3 Months

vent: formula flop

i slowly started weaning my 3 mo son with 4 oz of formula at the second to last meal of the day. in my good fortune this started to fill up my son and put him to sleep for eight hours. i was in shock. today is day five and my hubby and i decided to venture out for lunch and leave the baby with his mother. i brought his formula incase he needed to eat while we were away. i figured he might be ready for two bottles a day. i return to my MIL home to see her feeding the baby. Which is fine, that's why i left him food. She told me she heated up the formula, used nursey water and made him 6 oz. Well we have been using room tempature brita filtered water so far. and for the rest of this evening my son has been puking and spitting up and in a fussy mood. I hope this was just one bump in the formula transistion.

how much does your 3mo eat?

what temp is your water for formula?

  • 3.5-5 oz, she's never come near 6 at once. She eats whatever temp we give it to her. At night I warm it up so maybe it's more soothing, but during the day she's impatient so I give it to her out of the fridge (I make a pitcher at a time because it's easier to pour than to measure and mix each time). If I make it fresh it's at room temp. She's not picky.

  • I would venture to say that if you were only giving him 4 oz, then it is probably that his little tummy is upset over the other 2 oz.

At 3 months my LO was eating/is eating 6 oz every 3 hours. However I stopped BF at 2 months, and he was not gaining weight hardly at all.

We also use to heat up the pumped BM and now we use fairly room water with the formula.

  • I forgot to add that my LO gets really fussy and spits up if he needs to burp. With formula you have to burp them more.
