I hate bath time

My lo is 2 months and still hates taking baths.  She poops every time in the tub so it is always such a production.  It takes both my husband and myself to give her a bath, and I just hate it!

Yep...every time!  I have told my friends this who have kids and they are all surprised by this.  I BF and she poops ALL OF THE TIME!

I think if she were calmer for the bath, she would not.  It is when she is screaming her head off and getting hysterical that she poops.

So we have to get her out, clean out the tub and start all over.  I hate it!!!

I am quitting work and have decided that when I finish out my 2 weeks, I am going to have to bite the bullet and start giving her baths every night to get her use to the bath.  I work retail, so it is hard to get her in to a routine at this point.

  • My mom gave me this advice because evelyn hated bath time too at first....she said to put wash cloths on their body when they're laying in the tub to keep them warm.  Since I've been doing that, she actually likes bath time.  I put one on one leg, another on the other leg, and one on her chest.  I just remove them when I'm washing that part of her body.  Maybe that could help keep her calm?

It is normal for BF babies to poop rarely, or often.  Is she fussy often?  Does the poop have an unpleasant smell?  I ask because with both of my DSs, when they poop A LOT (with sort of unexpected and uncontrolled BMs like in the tub), it is a reaction to food allergies.  It also makes them fussy and the BMs are not a barely-there-sweet-smell of bf babies but an unpleasant smell.  Just wondering if maybe your DD has an undetected issue that makes her poop so much and especially sensitive to what is happening around her (like the temp change with baths).

If she just HATES baths, I wouldn't give her more.  She is only 1mo old. Until they are crawling around and drooling all over the place, they really don't get that dirty anyway. The washcloth idea from the pp is a good one too.  DS#1 hated baths probably for a year.  And at some point he started enjoying them.  He loves to play in the tub.  He gets a bath every night before bed and tries to get me to give him one before nap time too =)

  • we do the wash cloth thing too.  It has really calmed DS down and he doesn't scream now

  • DD hated bath time too - she screamed the entire time.  Now I get in the tub with her and hold her while DH washes her (we used her baby tub the first time).  The first time we did this she didn't scream at all.  I'm not saying that she loves bath time, but it seems to be growing on her.  Keeping the bathroom warm and using washcloths has helped too.

I read that if LO doesn't like bath time, you should go back to a sponge bath, then slowly try the regular bath again.
