question about newborns

Can my newborn wear pants while still in the hospital? I wasn't sure if having his little umbilical cord thing still on permitted him from wearing pants.

How do you prevent the top of the pants from rubbing this spot? Do you just roll them down?

Sorry if this doesn't make sense...it made sense in my head : )

Re: question about newborns

  • I wouldn't do pants yet, I'd do a one piece sleeper over a mitted under shirt.

you'd probably be okay to-- just don't pull them up over his belly button, keep them low.

  • I think pants would be ok, if you put a onesie underneath. It will also depend on how well the cord was cut. My LO's cord was cut pretty close, so he barely had a nub, and it didn't seem to bother him when a onesie was over it. Just play it by ear.

    Gosh, what a beautiful baby!

  • In the hospital we just did a long sleeve snap front t-shirt and a swaddle blanket (this is how they dress them there). i would not do pants for two reasons - one being the stump and 2 being they are a huge pain in the butt to constantly take off and on to change the diaper. and you and the nurses will be doing this constantly. try and get the shirts that have the built in mittens to cover the hands too...
