Moby or Maya?

Anyone have knowledge to share about these two wraps? I'd like to get one but I don't know a lot about either of them and I'm nervous with ordering online I'll make the wrong choice! TIA

Re: Moby or Maya?

  • I have both... I hate the Moby, but love the Maya.  But it really comes down to personal preference... some people swear by the Moby.  Sorry, that's probably not helpful.

  • Are you talking about the Maya Sling? They are two different things completely. I have the moby wrap which I love and DS loves. If possible I suggest trying them on at a store near you to see which you guys prefer before buying one.
  • My LO hates the Moby. He doesn't like being so forced inward with fabric on his face/head and always fights it. He does fine in the Beco, so it must be the type of wrap he doesn't like. I'd second trying to find these in person to try, I think it isn't about what you like, it's about what your LO will like.

  • I have both but will admit I've only used each 5-6 times.  I'm still torn on which one I like better (I borrowed the Moby and bought the Maya).

    - Moby- I find it to be a tighter, snugger hold (I think it's a good thing) and a bit more streamlined.  The fabric is a bit overwhelming at first, but with a few youtube videos I've mostly figured it out.  It does take a few minutes to do it up, which is fine- but it's kind of annoying that I have to take it all off (and back on after) to BF (at least I haven't figured out a way to BF with it on using the hold I want to use).

    - Maya- I've used this one a little less.  I'm still very much struggling with this one.  I think because it's new it's harder to adjust/tighten.  But I do like that I can do a cradle hold and that it's easy to put on/off (even though I'm struggling, it's still less work to put on).  I don't like the big flap of fabric that hangs off the front when you're done.  And I'm having a tough time figuring out how to support DD's head properly.

BUT- many of my issues with both are due to newbie experience.

  • DD liked the Moby for the first 6 weeks or so. I also have the Maya sling, but only used it a couple of times. DH uses a Beco carrier when he's out with her.

Basically, I don't wear her at all anymore. She prefers to be held or playing on the ground.
