Babies: 0 - 3 Months

help me out! im new to the bottle!!!

So i have quit breastfeeding my 7 week old and he is now getting bottles. I breastfed my first until he was on somewhat of a schedule so he was getting only about 3-4 bottles a day when i quit breastfeeding...so like i said, im new to the bottle at this age. i am used to just whipping out my boob and letting him eat until he was full. so i never knew how much he was getting.

anyway - how many bottles does your LO get in a day and how many ounces would you say they get?

  • My LO gets 4 oz every 3 hours during the day.

If I remember correctly I gave DS about 5 - 4oz bottles every day..so about 30 oz give or take per day. I could only BF for a couple months and we did the bottle after that

I think the general rule of thumb is 2.5 oz per lb of body weight.  So if baby weighs 10 lbs, he or she would be taking approximately 25 oz/day.

I think at your LO's age though I was also giving her 4 oz every 3 hrs.

  • I am BF, but when DD takes bottles they are 4oz.  Sometimes she makes quick work of them makes me think about possibly increasing to 5oz, but other times she only takes 3oz.  Are you still pumping?  If so, kellymom has a BM calculator to help you decide how many oz per day your LO should need.
