I'm still trying to figure out the best temperature for our bedroom when LO arrives.
We had the window a/c running earlier today along with our window fan and it was 73 and a bit cold (I felt that I needed to cover my feet with the bedsheet.
I turned the a/c off and it's 78 now (my stand alone thermometer and the fan are telling me the same temp) and it' comfortable (might be the best about 2 degrees cooler at 76 or so).
? -if it is comfortable for us can I assume that LO will be okay (we will run a fan close to his pack and play so that there is ventilation when he sleeps? I would also check the back of his neck to see if he is too hot/cold.
He will probably be dressed in a onesie and swaddled in a muslin Aden and Anasis blanket.
Thanks!
Re: ? on room temperature and LO
Eliza was born in December & has always run hot. We kept the house around 68-70 most of the time and she would sleep in a onesie - we bed share so she is toasty in just that. During the day, she would most often be in a long sleeve onesie or sleeper. Cooler is definitely better, overheating is a SIDS risk.
Now that it is warm, we have the AC around 70 and open the windows at night with an overhead fan. She is usually in a short sleeve onesie or sunsuit during the day and short sleeve onesie to sleep in.
I think the ideal temp is around 65. Too hot is a SIDS risk.
If you are worried about temp, check out one of these:

We bought the Groegg and returned it because it always read 77 and was a 3-5 degrees off from the other 3 thermometers we have.
I borrowed a thermometer from work that I trust so I'm going by that right now.
I read that with infants, they are comfortable in one more layer than you are. I never really "got" it but we used it as a rule. If I was comfortable in the a/c with a short sleeve and shorts, they were wearing long sleeves and pants/socks.
DD likes it frigid. It's normally around 67 in her room.
We never actually bought one either, but used those temps as a guide for how warm or cool to keep the house.

To some extent it really depends on your baby. Mine has always been a little furnace - I used to marvel at people who had their newborns in pajamas and also swaddled in fleece - we NEVER were able to use fleece anything - Jack would sweat his little butt off. It was scary a few times - even too much cotton layering and he'd sweat through clothing AND sheets. I had to learn to dress him really lightly - and keep the room COOL.
So wait and see - but you def don't want the room too hot. Good rule of thumb - if you're hot - baby is too.
"When it comes to sleeping, whatever your baby does is normal. If one thing has damaged parents enjoyment of their babies, it's rigid expectations about how and when the baby should sleep." ~ James McKenna, Ph.D., Mother Baby Behavioral Sleep Center, University of Notre Dame
cool is better than warm from several perspectives. layers are great and I think the way you plan to dress LO is perfect.
we keep our house very cool, our ac is in the attic and it is about 65 at bedtime, 66-67 other times. at 78 E would definitely overheat. Our house is never warmer than 69, summer or winter
