By going together do you mean same style of name or flow or matchy? I think names should be the same style, I guess flow depends, someone just asked about the name Elin w/ a sibling of Loren, I don't think they flow the best, but if I loved the name, I'd use it. As for matchy, maybe the same first letter, but I would never do Aiden & Caden.
DS is James. My fav "J" girl name is Jane. But we are not using it, because "James and Jane" is way too frickin' similar. But now if this babe is a girl, we are going with Julia, which is a similar style to James, I feel.
It would be the last thing I'd worry about, but I certainly wouldn't go with Alexis for a girl and Alexander for a boy... or rhymey names, etc. So I would say it's really important to us since "going together" is pretty broad.

Sort of. I want them to "go", like be of a similar style, era, etc. But I don't want them to have the same first letter (like Hailey and Hannah) or be rhym-y (like the same last sound as in: Hailey and Carly).
It is important to me that my twins' names go together. I think they will likely be referred to as a "team" and they'll probably be in classes together so it matters to me. My older son's name is much trendier than my twins' names but I'm ok with that.
It is important to me but I want to name our girl Charlotte which doesn't really flow well with our last name. So... I really don't know what I will do. I am kind of hoping it is a boy so I don't have to decide!!! Also, it matters A LOT to my mom and I swear I will hear about it FOREVER if it doesn't flow well.
"Going together" to me means not naming them way different from one another. I wouldn't want one DD as Margaret and the next DD as Pixie or something like that. I don't want people looking at one going WTH? Another example is that I'd never have 2 Irish names and then for the 3rd go for an Italian name. But I also don't want them to rhyme or be too matchy. A lot of the names I like can be shortened to end with an "e" sound, but I have a few that don't and I think that's fine. I would never have 19 J's like the Duggars!
I still don't understand what sibling's names "going together" really means. I see people post about this, but think it's kind of strange.
I plan on just choosing names I like. I'm not a fan of theme names though, if that's what your talking about. (like Sage and Basil for ex.)
I think names that go together means names that are similar in style. For example one child named Katherine and another named Mckenna don't go together. One is traditional/classic and the other is trendy. Another example is David and Brayden. They are just so different styles that they don't go together.
I care a little. My name is Angel, and my sisters name is Samantha. My guy's name is Eric and his brother's name is Ren. I don't think either set really goes together, but it works - and it's awesome that they're not matchy matchy.

I think that is really silly. If you like a name I think you should use it and not worry about names "going together." I don't see anything wrong with mixing different name styles. If someone told me their daughters were named Katherine and McKenna I would not think it was strange or that the names "don't go together."

I think you want names that have a similar origin but they do not need to be matchy matchy.
Go down two posts to read the discussion about Tyler and Juniper. Those names do not go together well.

FWIW, I think they are cute together too!

To each their own though, right.
