SMALL town SAHM help!!

emphasis on the SMALL...

so we recently relocated to my husband's hometown which is VERY small. previously we were living in a larger town. when we were making the move it was decided i was going to stay at home for the summer just b/c i could. its been 2 weeks & i hate it. i want to pull my hair out. i went on an interview yesterday & i'm hoping that pans out b/c i cant take this anymore! its not the staying at home part, its the small town part. in our previous town there were mommy & me classes, playdates, & just more to do in general!

so what do you do in a small town? i've checked, there is nothing appealing to a SAHM. when i say nothing, i mean NOTHING! anything you do strictly at home??

  • I work part-time and live in the middle of nowhere. I have to drive at least 20 minutes to even get to a Wal-Mart (we don't have Target) and eat fast food. Now, if I want to do a mommy and me class or anything like that I have to be willing to drive. Usually a bigger city has something for us to do and I have to drive about an hour to get there. We do that maybe 2 times a month. The other times we just love to get outside. We put a swing up in the backyard or go for walks. I know it's boring but you will figure out what to do after awhile.

  • this sounds exactly what i'm going thru! the town shuts down by 8. most "9-5" businesses close at 3!! its crazy!! we dont even have a proper grocery store! anything else is at least an hour away!

  • LOL Yep it sucks! But, you get used to it!! :) I have lived like this my whole life. I have to commute 45 min just to get to work everyday. Driving 45 min to eat a decent meal or to go see a movie is sometimes a pain in the ass but better than sitting at home!
  • i bought a kiddie pool, which he loves so that will be a weekly thing. also T just loves outdoors in general so i'm thinking of making walking a daily thing. only pro is that shortly i'll be in pretty good shape!!

Does you DH not know anyone in town with babies around your LO's age that you can get "set up" with? Is there no church that offers social programs? No park? I hope you are able to meet some people, GL!

  • Maybe a library or a church? My cousin lives in a small town and although she does not go to church on Sunday she said they have a great Mommy club she has gone to several times.
