  • SPF One Million.

I don't go outside with out 15 on, and if I know I'm going to be in the sun, I wear 45 or 70, depending on how much time I'll be out.

ETA: I get sunstroke really really easily, so I'm rarely in the sun long enough to warrant anything higher than 70.

  • Nothing below 30 on my body, nothing below 55 on my face.

Apply until skin is white from the lotion.  Only use sunblock, not sunscreen. Re-apply every 2 hours.  VIGILANCE!!!!!

ETA: This is for going to the beach/ outside during the summer.  I never leave the house without 15 SPF on my face from my moisturizer.  Any foundation I buy must have a minimum 15 SPF as well.

  • I mix iodine and baby oil and lay there with a foil covered cardboard aiming the sun at my face.

No, really, I am embarrassed to  say that I have spent so little time outside the past year I don't even have any sunscreen.

  • I remember the first time I saw SPF 15 and I thought WOW that's high.

Now I use 15 on my body, 50 on my face.

The news just had a segment on how the SPF levels aren't really as accurate as we may be led to believe.  Dunno, didn't pay much attention.

  • I should add that we're (obviously) a very pale family, and we live at 7000 ft above sea level, which is practically the face of the sun... at least it feels like it when the sun is out.  Even when it's cloudy and cool out, it's still common to sunburn in less than an hour here.

If we were still in TX I'd probably be fine wearing 45 instead of 70+, though the babes would still wear the higher spf's.

  • 30 on body, 45 on face.

My face moisturizer has 30, my makeup has 15.  The 45 is for when I am in the sun for hours.

I always heard that anything over 45 is worthless.  Like 70 would be no more effective than 45.  I don't remember where I read that, it was on something like CNN Health or something a few years back.  I figure thats probably wrong.  Leslie (and anyone else that uses anything over 45)?  I assume since you use 70, you notice a great deal of difference between 45 and 70?

I'm not sure about with sunscreens, but we use sunblock, and I've noticed a difference.  I used 45 here once last summer and burned in less than 2 hours, but with the 70 or 100 I've never burned even though I've been out in the sun longer and applied it at the same frequency.

  • I bet thats what it was.  The article was probably only talking about sunscreen, not sunblock.

    I have never used sunblock.

Wait, no.  I had that bright pink zinc stuff that my mom made me put on my nose one year.  I hated it.

  • Hello Ladies,

I am a lurker but I thought this was an intresting post and want to lead you to one that was on the 3-6 board about SPF. I don't know how to do clicky's so the html is below. I found the information on that thread to be quite helpful, I hope this helps.

  • I use nothing under 50 on me and the kids. Because I have fair skin and I burn like a mother. I literally start feeling the burn after sitting in the sun for 15ish minutes. SPF is my BFF.
