Introducing new foods

Does the same rule apply to wait three days before introducing a new type of apple or pear, in addition to the type of fruit itself? Leah is eating pureed apples and pears and it just occured to me that I bought new fruits the other day because they looked better than the old faithfulls I have been getting.

Re: Introducing new foods

  • I don't think so, unless there is a new fruit involved.

ex- she ate apples w/ bananas mixed in (first time eating bananas), then I would wait 3-4 days before introducing apples w/plums (first time having plums). But if it is just a different brand or type of apple/pear then I wouldn't wait.

Did that make any sense? lol

Do you mean Mac vs. Empire apples? I don't think it would matter, since the basic components of apples are the same.
  • yep, that's what I meant and yep, that makes sense. Thanks!!
  • I don't think that matters either.  Question for you since Dylan is also now starting food.  Have you tried the rice cereal with Leah?  If so, how does she like it?  Dylan hates it so I just keep trying.  I started mixing applesauce with it to give it some flavor, hoping that would help.  However, he doesn't really seem to like that either.  I'm not used to this as Justin loved it all!!  I wonder if I should keep trying it or skip the cereal and just do fruits and veggies.  I know they don't need the food at this point but I was still hoping he'd like it.

  • We started Leah with rice cereal just for practice - about every other day. Then I mixed in the pears after a week. It wasn't until I was giving her only pears or apples that she actually opened her mouth and seemed a little interested. And even on her best day she has about 5% the interest Evan did! I only gave both kids cereal for maybe 10 sittings only. I do apples and pears for a while. Then I mix in some pureed quaker oatmeal when I feel they need something a little more substantial and move on to other stuff gradually. Well, that is what I did with Evan and plan on doing this time around...but we'll see how she does with it.
