I wanted to hold off on all solids until 6 months, because Bun had a lot of food allergies as a kid and I didn't want Jack to have to deal with that too soon.
But, I calculated today, and my buntin' is getting between 30 and 36oz of formula a day. I know that 32 is generally the limit, but feeding him less really isn't an option.
Is it rice cereal time already? He isn't ready for a bowl and spoon at all. I'd have to put it in his bottle, which makes me very nervous, and I'm not really sure how to mix it or add it or whatever.
Help!!! :
Re: Formula Toxicity & Rice Cereal
Yeah, I know this. But, I also know that he could get sick from getting too much formula. So confused! :
Emerson was 3 1/2 months old when we started rice cereal, for the exact reason...too much formula. I didn't want to do the bottle thing either, so we just made the rice cereal really thin & essentially poured it in her mouth! LOL! She really didn't even get the hang of eating off a spoon until 4 1/2 months old! but it did tide her over a bit! GL!
He does have silent reflux, but it's not that. He is just a hungry baby. He only eats every 3-4 hours, but it's 6 oz at a time.We always give him a paci first and all that... he's just a hungry little guy...
He may just be going through a growth spurt...
I'm sure the doc can tell you what to do.
Our LO has been eating between 30-36 ounces per day for quite a while now. Probably since about your son's age. He didn't ever really demand more (like when he was younger and his intake was increasing so rapidly). So, you might be ok with just the formula for a while. Maybe he won't be increasing intake for a while.
Our pedi just told us to try to start solids, but he's closer to 5 mos now so it's ok with me.
Anne-
I know that some formulas for reflux actually contain rice cereal. Maybe try that?
We are on Enfamil AR (with added rice starch) - we tried adding cereal to his formula per his pedi, but it just made his spit up thicker. He does really well on the AR.
He was taking in 30-36 ounces a day because he was spitting most of it up and eating for comfort. Now he eats 22-28 ounces a day.
