Baby Names

Decided on a name

We aren't sharing with anyone since it is a little different and I don't want people's opinions IRL, but thought I would share here.

We are having a little girl and her name will be Everett Jane.

Everett is both my dad & grandfather's name, we are really doing it to honor my grandfather who is hands down the most amazing person on the planet and incredibly important to both myself and DH.  Also, my name is a boy's name and I have always been partial to boy's names for girls.

Jane is in honor of my mother (Janet).

I actually really love the full name for her, but if it doesn't fit there are a ton of really cute nicknames (Eve, Eva, Evie, Rett, Ever) that we can use, my favorite of which is Eve.

Thoughts?

  • You said you don't want opinions but then you end with "thoughts" so here is mine.

I don't like Everett as a boys name and it is even worse as a girls name. I think some of the nn are cute but the name is awful.

Sorry, I just don't want opinions from people I know in real life.  I am just fine with opinions from the interwebz.

  • I totally love this name!!!!  It can have to much personality with the nicknames yet at the same time it is sooo classy!  I really love it.  Jane is also my favorite middle name!
  • JJust curious, would you think about naming a boy Jane Everett?

Nope, sorry, doesn't go the other way for me, no girl's names for boys.

Haha, sorry about that.  Still a great, strong boy's name though!

Then why are boy's names not only acceptable but to some desirable for a girl?

I strongly feel that whatever name you pick for a child will fit that child (well, most names I should say!).  One of my good friends growing up was named Kyle--she was a girl.  Never did I think that it was a complete boy name because it fit her so well.  I also know a girl named Ryan and same thing, the name totally suits her.  And I know a girl named Jackson. Same thing.

With that said, I wouldn't personally use the name Everett but I do like it and think it's fine to use. I'm a fan of boyish girl names though, obviously since our little one is going to be named Parker.

  • Everett is all boy to me, so I'm really not a fan. I do like Jane though.

I think its beautiful and love the nn possiblities.. especially Ever
  • Everett is too masculine for me and Jane is just plain Jane. I like the meaning behind the names you've chosen and I don't think your daughter will hate you for it, but the little boy in her class also named Everett just might.

  • I don't like boys' names for girls ? not because I think that there should be rigid gender separation (there are plenty of fine unisex names), but because it looks like the parents are trying way too hard. When I meet a little girl named Steven or Evan etc., I assume that her parents fantasize about her being the spunky character in a sitcom who is just a little kooky, but still conventionally pretty and girly enough that everyone falls in love with her anyway. It's a tired, mainstream way to say, "Hey, look at me! I'm quirky!"
  • Jane is nice.

If you have a son in the future will you regret that you already used up the name Everett?  And are you sure you don't want your dad's opinion on this?  What if he hates the idea?  It might not honor him much if he's not a fan.

  • Personally, I think Everett is a horrible name for a girl.  It's too masculine.  If you're going to be going by nn's anyway, why not name her Evelyn?

I really don't understand the fascination with turning boys names into girls names.

This. He'll think he's not good enough. This name is all boy to me.

  • I don't like it for a boy and really don't like it for a girl. Jane is lovely. I'd use that for a first name and stick Everett as the middle name. This just makes a lot more sense. If you want to use a male name use it for a middle name. I'd hate to be named a boy name.
  • I. LOVE. THIS. NAME.

Great choice!  Not only is it just a really fabulous name, but you have a fabulous family tie to boot.  Congrats!  (fwiw I say skip the nickname.  Everett is too fabulous to shorten)

  • I think it's nice that the names have such great meaning for you.
  • I know you want Everett to honor family, but what about Everly Jane? It's close, but more girly.

This. I really don't like it, poor DD. I would be partial to the name if it was for DS.

  • I actually really like Everett but for a boy. I think Everett Jane flows all right and Evie Jane is cute. Would you consider breaking it down into the smaller name and saying it's your girl version of Everett??
