Babies: 3 - 6 Months

memorial day going away - need advice

now that the summer is upon us, we are lucky enough to be able to go to our family summer home.  I have tried to equip it as best as possible, with the same bouncy seats and playmats.  I also bought the same mattresses because I figured those things would help if they were consistent since that is where they spend the most time.   but on the rest of the stuff either got hand me downs or cheaper stuff.  basically what I am trying to say is that I tried to recreate the feel of home as mch as possible.  I am going to keep the same routines, but I am fearing the change of venue with really throw them off.  DS is STTN, DD isn't.  i am worried DS will start waking up now since we are in a different place.  Anyone have experience with this, have advice on going away with their kids?  TIA!

Re: memorial day going away - need advice

  • When DS was two months old, a series of unfortunate events caused us to have to stay at five different places in three states in four weeks. We bought him a PeaPod and he slept fine in it.  It sounds like you are very well prepared.  Have a great time!

  • I don't mean to flame you at all, but that seems extreme.  We have a lake house as well and have been up there every weekend since the middle of April and LO has been perfectly content in her pnp lite to sleep and her swing we got for up there.  She STTN every night whether she is in her crib or pnp.  I really wouldn't waste money on trying to recreate home elsewhere.  Babies adjust and adapt very well.
ETA: LO is almost 4 months if that helps age wise.
  • We travel all the time w/ LO and we go back and forth from the city apt to our house in the country on the weeknds and he's just fine. We don't have everything exactly the same, in fact for the first few weeks, little one slept in a hamy down pack n play until we finished getting his room set up. Don't drive yourself crazy, they are more adaptable than we give them credit for and they usually adjust quite well.,
  • We took DS away just last weekend for the first time.  We took his PNP, his bouncy chair and toys.  He slept great in the PNP and didn't really seem phased that he wasn't at home.  The bouncy chair was just there to hold him while I got ready or we were eating or something.  Frankly he has the most fun when he's on the floor on the blanket.

I also made sure to bring along toys for the long car ride.  On the way home he did get a little bored, but the toys helped.
