This is a list of women who are dealing with PCOS. Anyone can join in, so let me know if you want to be on this list! We can keep track of everyone?s cycle, offer advice, and support for each other. We check in every week, and the check-ins can always be found in the PCOSbio.
Good luck and lots of sticky baby dust to everyone!

Let us know how you are doing. If you have any questions for the group to answer, feel free to ask.
QOTD: Question from Julie721: My doctor didn't want to put me on Met because she thought it may make me lose weight and become more sensitive to blood sugar (I already get cranky/shaky when I don't eat frequently). Did anyone else have this?
Re: ~*~*~ PCOS Check-In ~*~*~ SAIFW
Update: Starting prometrium today! I hope that AF waits for me to finish the prometrium before she comes to visit b/c we are going to the beach. Guess I will see.
QOTD: I am on 1500mg of met so I dont have any advice sorry.
No updates here, just waiting on the new insurance to kick in so we can stop TTA.
QOTD: I am insulin resistant and on 1500 mg of Met. I get hypoglycemic if I don't eat as well (shaky, irritable, lightheaded, etc.). My doc says the Met regulates my insulin, so it doesn't surge and drop my glucose level. I believe this is the opposite what your doc told you? Weird. Met is a pretty common prescription given to PCOS women with IR. By the way, I am well in my normal BMI, I am 5'0 and weigh around 115lbs, so weight has nothing to do with my IR and I haven/'t lost any weight since being on Met.
My Israel Blog!
Update: On Provera until Friday and then AF watch begins. Then we are onto injects cycle #1
My doctor didn't want to put me on Met because she thought it may make me lose weight and become more sensitive to blood sugar (I already get cranky/shaky when I don't eat frequently). Did anyone else have this?
My RE put me on Met to loose weight. I wasn't overweight by any means but I had put on about 10-15 lbs after going off BCPs and the Met has helped me loose 9 of that, so I feel healthier. And Met hasn't given me a ton of awful side affects, I get along with it pretty well. GL to you!

Update: no new news here.
QOTD: That's a new one on me. My dr said that if you don't have diabetes, the Met only helps to minimize IR. It won't have any effect on blood sugar.
Also, my RE says that for the skinny PCOSers, they need a higher dose, like 2,000+/day for it to work, and they have a hard time keeping weight on, so she encourages them to eat more food (like nuts).
Sigh. wish I had a dr tell me to gain weight
BFP #3 via cancelled IUI ~ C (2lb 3oz; HELLP) 5/16/11
BFP #4 via the natural (free!) way ~ E (8lb 11oz) 9/13/12
Update Going in for CD16 follie scan and blood work tomorrow morning to see if I am responding to the 225IU of gonal-f.
QOTD: I am not insulin resistant so I am not sure, sorry!
Update: I am 7dpiui, so I am getting antsy. I really don't have a good feeling but we will see.
QOTD: I am currently on 1500mg of Met which I wonder if enough.
Last cycle for me was really odd. Normally I have long to never-ending cycles and need Provera to bring them on. This past cycle was 21 days long and then I started bleeding. We had had sex early that day so I thought it was just irritation-type bleeding, but when it turned from spotting to full-on AF I was confused. I've never had such a short cycle. The bleeding lasted over a week and was very heavy at times and then went back to spotting. I'm guessing I started a new cycle then. Waiting to see how this cycle looks... on CD21 now.
QOTD: I'm not sure how Metformin affects skinny PCOS-ers as I'm not one of them. I take Metformin to help me lose weight and regulate my cycles. It hasn't helped with either of them so far, but I've also been really bad with my diet. My RE told me that if I'm having such a hard time with low-carb to just try low-cal for awhile and see if that goes better. Here's hoping!
Update: Took 1st round of Clomid days 3-7 this cycle (now on day 9 and hoping to ovulate!)
QOTD: I am taking 2000mg of Met a day and I have lost 18 pounds so far. I haven't had any other negative s/e so it's been good for me. My doctor prescribed it to help with IR that tends to be a symptom of PCOS. However, I've not heard about the long term effects of Met, like if your body would become dependent, or do more harm than good. I have heard that Met is helpful to take through the first trimester.
Update: I'm currently taking Provera, which sucks because I JUST had my period. Based on previous experience with Provera I should be going in approximately June 8th for u/s & b/w. I will also be getting my "mystery pills" for the study (Clomid or Femara).
QOTD: I'm not currently on Met due to the research study, but my previous doctor told me Met would not affect my blood sugar (I'm hypoglycemic). I was only on Met for about 5-months, but it did not make me lose any weight (although I do need to).
Married 1/2/99.
TTC since 4/09.
Diagnosed PCOS. Diagnosed Hypothryoid 11/09.
SHG & SA normal. PCOS Research study started 5/10.
Clomid/Femara cycle #1 - 6/10 = BFN
Clomid/Femara cycle #2 - 7/10 = BFP #1 - Missed miscarriage 9/2/10
11/12 - BFP #2 - 11/22 - m/c
5/1/11 - BFP #3 - Pre-eclampsia, IUGR & bed rest from 32w. DD born via induction 1/4/12.
Update: Just found out this morning that we will be cycling again this month! CD2 right now, starting Follistim tomorrow. I'm so happy to be back to treatments!
QOTD: I can't help because I am on Met.
TI, IUIs, IVF = c/ps and BFNs
Update: AF just arrived last night so I'm headed in for my baseline tomorrow morning. Hopefully my one remaining follicle is gone and hasn't turned into a nasty cyst.
QOTD: I'm on Met to hopefully help me lose weight, so I can't really help you.

I'm New.
Dx w/ PCOS in Oct 2009. We've been TTC since Jan 2010.
Right now I am on 2,000 mg Metformin/day. I am supposed to be losing weight, but no matter what I've done, I've only lost 7 lbs. Next follow up appointment is Jun 14th.

and Luck to my BFPB StephK!!- Emma is here!!
I am 6 dpiui, and already going a bit stir crazy waiting to test!
QOTD: I am not IR or on Met, so I can't help!
Well, we are on our second cycle charting and TTC. My first cycle was 70 days and had to be ended with Provera. It is now CD30 and no O in sight
I went for an insulin test, but it was normal so the PA at the Gyno office won't do metformin. She wants me to come back if I am not pg by Aug. 1 to speak with the doc. At that point, if he won't treat the PCOS, I'm asking for a referral for an RE.
(Waves hello!)
I'm new here. We are either going to start TTC this month or next. I was diagnosed with PCOS in 1998 at my first ob/gyn appointment.
My endo put me on 2000mg/day of Met to help loose weight, regulate cycle and help reduce the possibilities of miscarriage. So far, I have experienced every side effect listed. The scale hasn't noticed much of a shift, but my pants are fitting more loosely, which is a nice thing. Since I was about 12 I've always been on the larger side and asked about anything to help, but my previous PCP was against everything except exercise and diet change. When this (over the course of the last 10 years) didn't work as well as I would have liked, I changed doctors to be able to see an endo who would try to help. Her recommendation for me and H based upon medical history and age was to TTC for 3 maybe 4 months, then see an RE. I eat a fairly decent diet and avoid fast food, fried items, etc.
My OB/GYN gave me the script.
I was dx with hypoglycemia in HS (@age 15-16), I haven't been referred to a RE yet, but I have an appt. 6/14 and now that I'm more educated about it, I have a ton of ?s to ask.

and Luck to my BFPB StephK!!- Emma is here!!
Update: 1dpIUI #1. I am not hopeful due to Post wash was much lower than expected (4.8 mil) and there was great difficulty with my IUI (tenaculum and extended wired caths)
QOTW: I have never been prescribed Met.
No updates here!
QOTW: I'm on met, too, and I'm diabetic, so no help from me. Sorry!

Hi, my name is Carrie and I'd like to be added to the list.
While at a family planning appointment with my obgyn on Tuesday (we are planning to actively start ttc in a few months) my DH and I found out that I have PCOS and the doctor started me on 2000mg of Metformin right away; my sugar levels are normal, but I do have some of the symptoms like weight gain, irregular periods, cysts on one ovary, etc.
I've been doing a lot of research on what pcos is in the last few days and am thankful to have found this! Overall, I'm optimistic (its my nature) but I hate how now its mixed with worry about what struggles we'll face in the near future.
Hi Ladies. I'm new, too, and thrilled to have found this group!
my update: recently diagnosed, and looking into my insurance plan to figure out which direction to go next. Buying a ton of OPKs to try "traditionally" for the heck of it while we wait to figure out IF tx options.
QOTD: I am also a "lean PCOS" person (BMI=20). My doc said I don't even need an insulin resistance test, so no Metformin for me.
