Baby shopping in Detroit/Port Huron/ Auburn Hills

Hi All!  I live in SW Ontario and DH and I are making the trip over to Michigan to try to do one big cross-border shop for some deals!

I figured I would go right to the source and ask you ladies what are some places in the above areas to get good deals on baby stuff, nursery items, etc. We usually go to Auburn Hills to shop, but also can drive in through Port Huron and are going to a Tigers game one night downtown, so we will be all over.

We need basically everything, except crib, dressers, etc., so any suggestions are welcome! I am due in August and starting to get a little stressed that we have a completely empty room just sitting there. TIA!

  • I might be biased but I <3 Great Lakes Crossing.  Last weekend the Coach outlet had Baby Bags, Carter's and OshKosh are having huge sales, and GameDay Detroit had some super cute baby items (Go Tigers!).  I also love going to Somerset for the Pottery Barn Kids.  Big Smile Good luck!!!!

  • I second Great Lakes Crossing for everything the PP said!  Plus there's a Gymboree outlet and a Motherhood Maternity outlet if you need to visit those two stores too.

  • Definitely check out Babies R Us, there are multiple locations, so use the store locator to find one near the area you'll be at:

  • Thanks ladies!  Great Lakes Crossing is the reason we are going to Auburn Hills.  It's awesome!  Babies R Us is definitely on the list as well, as we don't have any stand-alone BRUs in Canada.

Are the outlets in Birch Run worth going to (especially Pottery Barn), or is it better to stick with Great Lakes Crossing?

  • Birch Run has pretty much all of the same stores, but Pottery Barn.  I wouldn't drive there just for that outlet.  It is so hit and miss, I get disappoint almost every time I go to it. Also the stuff isn't as marked down as I feel it should be for the damage to the items.  Unless you buy something that would have to completely redo or rework.
  • I think Great Lakes Crossing has the best kid stores.  I LOVE Children's Place, Osh Kosh, Carters, Gymboree to name a few.  Plus, BRU is within minutes from there.

If you go to Great Lakes, like PP said, there is a BRU, Kohls, and an Old Navy right near it. Its on the same street, but the I75 runs between them.
