Lately Eva likes to pretend she is different animals. Throughout the day she switches from a bear to a penguin to a turtle and so on. Whatever she is, I'm the mommy animal and DH is the daddy. She never drops character. I think it's adorable and shows she has a good imagination. Today we were hanging out at my sister's day care center (helping out and mooching air conditioning!). My sister thought it was strange, especially since she tried to get the other kids and teachers in on it. When my sister would come into the room Eva would address her as "Other penguin" and ask her if she wanted any fish. My sister jokingly asked me what kind of drugs I was on when I was pregnant. Is my child really that strange? Do other kids pretend like she does or should I be worrying?
Re: Is my kid weird??
Sometimes DD pretends to be a dog but she doesn't do it for very long and doesn't include us at all.
....and its usually when she's naked. haha. Every kid has a weirdness to them.
If she's weird, than so are my kids! Mine love to play that game and request that I call them by their animal name (baby panda, baby bear, sister bear, etc.).
So does Eva! It's hard to keep up with who she is! If I call her by her name she reprimands me- "No Mommy Hippo, say 'Thank you, Baby Hippo.'"
My DD does the exact same thing! It literally goes on all day, every day. And she also directs my speech, "Mommy, you say _____."
It cracks me up when we'll both be in characters and then she'll say something to me, I'll respond in character, then she'll say, "No, Mommy, it's me, Dana, not pretend."
let me preface this with saying that all kids are weird
But NO!!! That's not weird at all! I'm kind of bummed that your sister didn't think about what an amazing imagination her niece already has. That's such a fun way to play and I love that she wanted everyone else to join in the fun. Go Eva.
A possibility was born the day you were born and will live as long as you live.
Nope. We play characters from books, movies, and tv all the time. I think I'm Alex from Madagascar today and my son is Gloria. (Love that one). Whatever drug you were on, I was too!!
That's what made me worry! She has three kids and runs a day care center! Oh well, it makes me feel better knowing that I was right thinking Eva's imagination was a good thing and she's not wacky.
I don't think it's weird either. I love little imaginations like that!
Cole will pretend to be a puppy all the time. Except he REALLY stays in character. As in, he doesn't talk. He only barks, "Ruff, Ruff!" He'll come climb in my lap and pretend to lick my face and sniff me.
I'll say, "Hey, puppy! What's your name?" His response is always only "Ruff Ruff." So that's what we call this puppy persona - Ruff Ruff.
He'll whimper and cry and I'll say, "Aw, what's wrong Ruff Ruff?" To which his only reply is a sad little "Ruuuff Ruuuff."
It's like trying to have a conversation with Lassie. Ha ha. At least Cole will give me a nod or shake his head no every now and then, though.
So, if Eva is weird, then Cole is really weird. LOL.
