Room temp at night & Pajama's

My DS's room stays around 75 degrees at night (we haven't turned our A/C on yet for the summer).

I currently have him sleeping in long sleeve footed pajama's and a onesie.

Do you think I am overdressing him for bed?  He doesn't seem too hot or uncomfortable, but I am still concerned.

  • Whoa. My DS would melt away with those layers. At most he would wear long sleeve footed jammies and that even in the dead of winter.

  • We keep the house at 73 and DS sleeps in footless pj pants and a short sleeve pj top.

  • I think the onesie under is too much. We have the same issues too. We put him in a onesie and pants he'll be hot, if it's just a onesie, then he is freezing at early morning hours, but won't wake up or complain. We just dress him in a cotton light footed sleeper with the fan on, or pj footless pants and a shortsleeve onesie.

I think I need to run out and buy something like that this weekend.  His long sleeved footed ones are lightweight, but he also sleeps with a blanket and I don't want him to overheat.

    Thanks.

Do you have a Costco close to you? They have 3 piece Carters pj sets for $8! The come with the pants, top and shorts! I bought all 5 styles that they had.

  • We haven't turned our air on yet, either.  Max sleeps in a onsie or a romper.  There is a fan in his room, but we keep the windows closed and locked.  He has a crocheted blanket, but even in just a onsie he wakes up sweaty in the morning sometimes.

Yep we do, and I even have a membership :)  I think I will run over there tomorrow and pick up some.  Thanks for the tip.

  • That sounds WAY too hot for me.  On the hottest nights, we have LO's room at 69 and he's in long-sleeved pajamas.  I think they recommend 68 degrees for babies.  I'd turn your a/c on.
  • I keep our condo at 72 at night, plus a fan in DS's room.  His room is the coolest in the house, so it's probably more like 70-71.  He's in footed pjs and a very light sleepsack.  I sleep in a big tshirt, sheet and blanket, so I figure that's about the same.  I'd say you might be overdressing a little bit.

Yes.  G's room is 70-72 and she's in shorts and a t shirt.  She has a blanket but she sleeps on it, with it bunched up at her pelvis, not over her.  LOL.  She's fine at night.

  • Well, our house has been close to 75 at night some of the nights lately, and I myself sleep in light pants and long sleeve with a sheet.  My 3yr sleeps in pants and long sleeves, but his blanket doesn't stay on for long.  My 3 month old sleeps in a onsie and cotton Halo SleepSack Swaddle and seems perfectly comfortable to me.  If your LO seems comfortable, that I think he's fine, but it would be much better to put a fan in his room, not only to keep it cooler, but the circulating air helps reduce the risk of SIDS.  I'm a huge fan of wearable blankets, particularly the Halo ones, and that what my oldest slept in for a long time.
