Those who delivered at Harrisburg Hospital...

What was your experience like?  DD was born at Holy Sprit and they were great, but my current OB only does harrisburg so I'm looking for some insight TIA!

Re: Those who delivered at Harrisburg Hospital...

  • I had the best experience with both of my deliveries.  The nursing staff was great! They respected my requests, helped me when I needed help etc...The only thing I had to do was ask for my pain meds (I had a c-section) but that was no big deal...I KNEW when it was time so pusing a button was no big deal for me! Good Luck with your pregnancy!

  • I had a great experience.  All of the staff was very friendly.  The one charge nurse seemed on a power trip and said something about being in charge like 5x but she was nice even.  My only complaint is they were short staffed/over run and we didn't get discharged until about 2pm.  DH & I had EVERYTHING ready to go at 10am, we were tired and hungry and just wanted to go home. I sat there for four hours to get "the talk" about PPD basically which took about 2 minutes.  It was a very busy few days (I had to stay on the labor floor until they discharged some people) and I've never been in the hospital/know nothing about nursing but I think you could have realized that the post partum floor was going to be slammed (since we were all downstairs 24-48 hours ago) and called a few more people in to help cover.
  • The nursing staff was great, but the lactation consultants, not so much. DS took awhile to get the hang on BFing. I asked to see a lactation consultant several times and no one came until a few minutes before we were getting discharged. She quickly latched him and then left, and he still wasn't getting the hang of it. I was scared bringing him home because he's our first and he was barely eating. I paid several lactation consultants to come to the house those first few weeks until he finally got the hang of it, and then he BF like a champ until 16.5 months.

Overall, my birthday experience at Harrisburg Hospital was good. Again, the nursing staff was great. It was just the lactation consultants I wasn't happy with.

    Good luck!

  • I wasn't in Labor and Delivery for too long (3 hours from check in to delivery, roughly) so I only had one nurse while in there and she was awesome!  They were busy the day we went in, but not as bad as the PP.  We got the last L&D room and they said the nursery was full and requested we keep DD in our room if at all possible after they did their inital tests and bath.  The postpartum floor was fine, nothing to rave about but not bad either.    I had no problems with my experience there and if we moved back to Central PA, I'd have no second thoughts about delivering there again.
  • I had a great experience with both of my deliveries.  All of the nurses were wonderful on both floors.  The PP floor is different in the sense that they try to give you your privacy and family time.  If you need a nurse, you just need to call for one.  I would recommend this hospital to any expecting mom.
