Baby 411 says 68 is ideal when they are sleeping to prevent SIDS. The hospital told us 70-72. We keep the house at 72-74 during the day and 68 at night because that's where we're comfortable. DD wears long sleeved sleep sacks that cover her hands, socks, and a fleece sleep sack to sleep and she's never been too hot or too cold. During the day she's in a onesie with socks.
our house is at a steady 71 degrees all year long. i am married to a polar bear. i just dress the kids according to their needs but i don't adjust the house temp. if he's hot or you're hot, turn the a/c down.
a good rule of thumb (and i didn't read the other respnses so sorry if someone already said this) is to make yourself comfortable and then add 1 layer to the baby. so if you're warm in a tshirt and yoga pants, he might be just right in the same since he is a wee bit cooler.
Wow that just seems so cold to me. I think we started keeping the house warmer a few years ago because we had $700 light bills and now we have adjusted to the warmer temperature.
Sounds like I need to lower the house a few degrees and deal with the electric bill.
We have always kept our house at 78/79 when the A/C is on (except when we have guests over...I don't want to make them miserable). Granted, she was a newborn in february, so we weren't having to run the A/C, but I think I would have had a hard time keeping the house much lower otherwise.
I think most of those recommendations do not come from people who live in Texas, and the doctor who kept his at 75...well, he's a doctor, he can afford crazy power bills!!

Thanks for the advice.
I asked our pediatrician - who's father to a 2-year old - and he says he keeps his house at 75.
We've kept our house at that temperature and it's been fine for Elena (though her hand are cold sometimes)
