WTF? They are all dead, isn't that pretty cliche, right next to they all woke up from a dream?
And I still have a million questions. What was the motivation for Charles Whitmore to be so evil and Eloise to get everyone back to the Island? Do they know Jacob? And what exactly is the Island, with the electromagnetism and time travel? The ending just didn't fit with the rest of the show.
So dissapointing.
Re: I just watched the final episode of Lost (spoilers)
It's raelly annoying that they left so much unanswered. I knew they wouldn't answer everything, but really- I feel like they answered nothing.

I have to reply to this, even though I'm just a lurker here, lol. Still on maternity leave but going back to work part time in another 6 weeks, so hi!
I just watched it too, and here are my thoughts:
Yes, they are all dead, and the story was everyone's journey to their acceptance of death- For Jack, he had to find meaning in his life (why was he on the island), battle his own demons (the man in black), step up as a leader (to find the confidence he didn't have cuz of his dad), etc.
Each character did some pretty significant things on the island, which was part of their story of accepting death, like losing and finding love, cultivating friendships, having a significant "moment", etc.
And perhaps everything that happened on the island was "real life" for them, and what we'd consider real life (the flashes we watched this season) was just a waiting room, which is why they all "awakened" to their island time. Once they remembered, they could move on, ie die. Eloise, Desmond, Richard, etc, they were the real shepherds- helping the characters make their way through their journeys.
I think it's still definitely a cop-out ending, and the easy way to not have to explain all the questions about time travel, the island, etc, but I made peace with it by thinking about it in more philosophical terms.
Very anxious to hear others thoughts though!

LOST was about the people and their stories not about the island or the numbers or any of that hence why they didn't feel the need to answer those questions.
The island was real and the side-ways story was after each person had died. Jack's father (Christian) told Jack at the end of the show int he church that they had all died but at different times, some on the island and some long after but that they all had to find each other to move on. The side ways was for lack of a better word purgatory.
Some have said that Jack died on the second plane crash, in the hole with the light thing or in the field as was shown (which was the 1st scene in the show when he woke up after the 1st crash. I beleive he did all that was shown and then died happy since he knew his friends had made it off the island - he saw the plane fly over his head.
The plane at the end was shown was the original flight that crashed and I read that it was shown for no other purpose than to show that they had been there and light the boat and other stuff that was left on the island from others, this is what they left behind.
Hurley and Ben could have lived for years protecting the island before they passed the job onto someone else. In the side ways world, time was irrelvant. Everyone came together in the way that they remembered each other, they came together because they were important to their lives at some point but in a significant way.
There is a great blog that I have read (found it on CNN) where people talk about what they think and its been really interesting to read all season.
I was not sure about the ending when I saw it but have grown to like it more and more as I've thought about and read what others think.
