NTR--if you've had your wisdom teeth removed

OK--so it'll be a week tomorrow that I had all 4 removed.  It was SUPER fast (I'm talking about 20 minutes)--and I only had novacaine and laughing gas so I know what occured during the procedure.

Things have been going ok--still sore but my biggest concern is that I can't open my mouth (jaw) more than an inch or so---seriously.  I've pretty much been on liquids/soft foods since then.   I can barely yawn without it hurting.  I'm afraid to know what is going on inside there.  Has anyone dealt with this and how did it get "fixed"?  I go back tomorrow for stitch removal and will ask then as well.

  • I'm so glad you asked this. Mine is scheduled for June 24th and I am scared to death. I can birth 3 babies but have put off getting my teeth removed forever!

  • It could be because the area is closing back up and the stitches are feeling tight.  I remember having that feeling.  It should go away then the stitches are removed.  GL!

I was super nervous and I deal with dental really well--but didn't want to be put to sleep and honestly, it was NOTHING.  And all the ice cream and pudding I could eat afterwards--but for some reason I'm dealing with this jaw pain (let me say though---I have jaw issues anyways--so not sure if this just aggravated it).

I say just do it and get it over with.  My fear is to have something go wrong while pregnant--I'm trying to get it all done now.

  • Same thing when I had mine removed.  For a week or so I could barely open my mouth.  The next couple weeks I could open more but it was still stiff and sore.  I can't remember how long exactly it took to feel better.  But it wasn't permanent or anything!

  • Yep, i remember my jaw being much more sore than anything else. It was awhile (couple weeks) before it felt right again. Hope you feel better soon!

  • I just had mine out last Thursday also, and my jaw is STILL stiff.  It really hurts just to talk for any length of time.  So, I hope this is normal! The worst part right now, the stitches are cutting sores in my mouth... I'm just ready for it to be over and to eat real food again.  Sad

I know--i want REAL food.  I love ice cream but holy lord......I've already eaten half a gallon in a week!  LOL

The worst part is I go on a cruise in less than 3 weeks and I plan on eating BIG time!

  • I had all four of mine out in October... I put it off for YEARS, I was so terrified of it.  I was seriously fine the next day, never had any real swelling, no pain, just the holes in the back of my gums for several months, had to clean them with the syringe which was a bit of a pain, but all in all, it was kind of a breeze.  I should add that all of my teeth were fully up in my mouth, just like regular molars, so they were just a simple pull, no compaction or oral surgery required to remove them.
  • My stitches were the kind that dissolved.  I remember that before one fully dissolved it was sore and the surgeon's nurse squirted some lidocaine cream in the socket, and that helped a lot.  She said to come back if it started hurting again but I didn't need to.
