Babies: 3 - 6 Months

4 monthers

Is your baby rolling yet? Either way?

I feel like mine is the only one that's not even attempting it.

Re: 4 monthers

  • Nope!  I feel like he is close though.

  • No rolling yet either. DD occasionally will roll on her side but stops there.

DD rolled from belly to back once at 2 months and hasn't yet again. I attribute it to her hating tummy time so I don't do it as much as I should. I think she is getting close with back to belly though.

  • Yes but she's been doing it for a month now.  I also attribute a lot of it to constant tummy time.  She prefers her belly. She will roll 3 or 4 times in a row.
  • If it's any consolation, my 5 month old doesn't roll that much! He can, and he does, but it's not every single time we put him on his tummy/back. He can sit unassisted, and can even balance himself for a few seconds standing up and holding on to something, but forget rolling.

  • Rolling isn't typically done on purpose until 6 months. Babies can roll earlier, but the motion usually isn't volitional. Don't worry! Your baby will do it sooner or later.

  • my LO is only interested in rolling (back to tummy, back to side, not tummy to back) in our bed before and after naps... he doesn't do it on a play mat on the floor
  • My LO will be 4 months next week... she's not even trying to roll either. You're not alone!
  • Noah has rolled over like twice and I think it was by mistake.
  • Yes, but it just started happening on a regular basis this last week.  She does it more often from tummy to back, which is making tummy time more difficult. :)
  • I put DD on her belly in the living room and then go do chores.  That way she can't get me to save her as soon as she's annoyed to be on her belly.  I do dishes or laundry or something while she works at getting a toy or rolling over :-)  She has been rolling both ways for a while now.  She scootches a little now too.

  • My baby rolled over tummy to back a few times, but hasn't for about a week - I think she forgot how :)  Honestly, it was so obviously accidental that it barely counts.

She rolls to her side from her back, but I think back to tummy is a ways off still.

  • Nope. She can roll up onto her side but that's it. I'm not worried and you shouldn't be either!

  • DD has rolled from tummy to back a handful of times, but she has no interest in doing it regularly.

She can also roll from back to side, but then she's done.

So it's kind of like she CAN do it, but she doesn't care to?

She can stand assisted for long periods of time and is starting to be able to sit unassisted for a bit, so I'm wondering if she'll just kind of skip it.

  • She has a few times (front to back) but only in the last week. And it's totally accidental.

He did twice from front to back during ONE tummy time about 3 weeks ago- not since.  He does put his leg over occasionally and get to his side (sort of) but not rolling either way yet on his own.  We practice some times on a blanket on the living room floor.

  • Well, I feel better now! Thanks everyone.

Sometimes I feel like my DS is so far behind all the Bump babies...but then when I meet real life babies he is right on track. It's weird!

  • DS was making no attempts to roll until his 4 month birthday. He rolled tummy to back for the first time that day. Every time we put him down for tummy time since then, he rolls over immediately. It's like he just suddenly realized that he didn't have to stay on his tummy, which he really, really hates.

I think it's more the Bumpies whose babies are doing things a little early are a little more quick to tell everyone.  Then we sit back and wonder what is wrong with our "normal" babies!  DD has rolled tummy to back a few times, but it was totally by accident and she looked so startled when it happened.  Kind of cute :)

  • Nope.  She rolls onto her side but that's about it.  She likes tummy time too but she's just not interested in rolling.  With time it'll happen.  I seem to remember my son being about 5 months old when he did it.
