Baby Names

Ca$h

I have been telling people, especially my students (7/8th grade) that when I have a son, I am going to name him Ca$h, as a joke. Everyone actually really likes the name Cash, with out the $. I told my husband about the joke and he agreed, HE likes Cash. So now it is starting to grow on me. Only problem is that our last name starts with an S, and Cash St--- might blend together.

Re: Ca$h

  • I think you would regret it. You started it as a joke....what does that tell you?

  • Personally I am not a fan of Cash (or Ca$h Stick out tongue)- to me it sounds like the parents are trying to hard to be cool.

But if you love it, go for it. I don't think the last name thing is an issue. If your last name began with an SH sound, then maybe. St, not a big deal imo.

This exactly. Just leave it as a joke.

This. I don't think that I would like to know that my name started as a joke.

  • Cash is pretty bad, unless you are referring to Johnny Cash, refering to currency or naming perhaps a small dog.
  • I like it only if his middle name is Money.
  • I'm going to go against the majority on this one. I actually like it Cash (not Ca$h). I know several little boys named Cash so it doesn't seem like a strange name to be at all.

  • I know someone named Cash, not a name I particularly like, but he is perfectly normal & successful.

  • I like Cash.  It reminds me of Johnny Cash, but that's not a bad thing.  Also, I don't think it's so terrible that the name started as a joke. There have been plenty of names that I didn't like at all and would have joked about using, only to come around and end up liking them enough to possibly use them for a child.  Your opinions and preferences change over time.  And taking out the $ sign makes a big difference. :-)

  • It's awful
  • I like Cash. Its unique and if you and DH like it then thats what matters.
  • I have an Irish friend who named her son Cashel.  Personally, I would only consider Cash for a nickname.
  • It's nms, but isn't horrible.

  • I would be embarassed to tell you the names I liked when I was in 7/8th grade. Maybe your students aren't the best ones to get advice from.

Agree with PP's: The name looks like you have tried very hard to look cool, and have failed.

UNLESS you are a HUGE fan of Johnny Cash, and you don't mind telling everyone he's the namesake.

no its not all that matters. An innocent child will be saddled with the name.

I HATE this logic. Its not just about what you and DH like. The child should come first. they are the ones who will be stuck with it for life.

That being said, I don't hate Cash. I don't like it, but I don't think its horrible either.

  • It's awful.

This, sorry. I was actually talking about this name the other day. It just sounds like it's trying way too hard to be cool (like Maverick and Axel) and in 50 years, do you think it will still be as "cute" as it sounds to you today? I doubt it. It also doesn't flow with a St name so I'd go with something else.

  • I like the idea of the name Cash...but only in theory. I agree that if it started out as a joke it shouldn't be considered as a real contender as a baby name.

I always try to remember that my kid will have this name their entire life and I can't really imagine the name Cash working well for someone on the playground.

Although they could have a great career in banking and finance someday!

  • You could be like my neighbor Mr. Rich and name your son Cash Rich. Or not.
